We haven't officially nightweaned, but for the last month DH has been sleeping with one baby while I sleep with the other (twin girls, almost 1 year old). I used to sleep with them both but was going crazy waking non-stop all night long, and amazingly, DH is now able to calm the baby he has most of the time (by picking her up and walking her around/patting her back), whereas he couldn't not too long ago - if he can't, he brings her to me, I nurse her, and he takes her or her sister back with him. I realized the other day that this sounds a lot like nightweaning, doesn't it? Not for the baby that's with me, because she gets nursed when she wakes up, but the baby that's with him goes many hours without nursing, last night she went 10 hours without nursing...so why does she still wake up every 2 hours??
I was sure when they weaned they wouldn't get up that often, that's what everyone assured me, but they're still waking up really often even though they're not being nursed at most of the wakings. Have we just substituted being picked up and walked by daddy for nursing? I understand why the baby with me is waking up, because she is nursing, but why would the other baby wake up so frequently? Any thoughts on reducing those wakings?
