Best Birth Pool

Thread Starter
Hi I'm guessing there have been similar threads previously but I am too lazy to go searching
I have 17 wks to go and want to start organising myself, starting with the pool. Can any of you ladies please share your experiences with different birth pools and why you would (or wouldn't) use the same type again?
Thanks a mill

I've used a fishy pool (it was okay, but not super deep) and the Birth Pool in a Box. LOVE the BPIAB! It's awaiting its 5th birth in it right now (not me!), and in November I'll birth in it again for #6. Very comfy, very deep, plenty of room to move around (I got the regular size). Handles are great, too. And you can get liners so you CAN share it like I have. They also make clean up quick and easy.

I don't have much experience, having only ever used one birth pool (the Aqua Doula - it was great), but it is worth mentioning that if you have dogs or cats, you probably want to avoid the inflatable sort as they don't stand up very well to paws and claws. Good luck!

Where do you get the BPIAB? online, I'm assuming?

Sorry, I was just googling it and ran across this: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=899965

Looks like LOTS of info there. I'm going to read some more!

www.yourwaterbirth.com has a pool comparison section. They also have a section for BPIAB.

I posted on the other thread... but we used a La Bassine and we had to transfer after 3 days for a c-section and the pool sprung a leak and deflated the top half and we caused 10s of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the apartment below us. Not something you want to find out the morning after you have finally had your little one!

So, in the future I would only use non-inflatable pools.

I'll be getting a rented AquaDoula in May/June! I hope it's awesome.

Birth Pool in a Box was fantastic. La Bassine was not - not quite deep enough and the sides weren't supportive enough, so when I leaned on them water sloshed out, which was really irritating.

Loved the BPIAB I used with the birth of #2. Very supportive sides; I was able to labor comfortably.

We just used the La Bassine for the first time (a wonderful mama from MDC blessed us with it ), and we loved it. I found it very supportive and had no issues with water sloshing out. I really loved how fast it inflated, because we weren't able to have it inflated before the baby came (it didn't fit through our small hallways), and my babies come very quickly. It only took about 15 minutes to inflate with the hand pump!

In the past, we used a fishy pool. If you have no other options, it'll do, but I never felt like I was submerged enough in the water. Also, the walls aren't really high enough to drape yourself over, which is one of the things that I really appreciated about the LB!

i am looking at different pools but I am 6'2 and think a deep pool would be the best investment... but this is soo much cheaper...
