What do you think of them?
I got one from a friend yesterday and used it this morning before I ate. The whole thing was ferns. I'm cd 12. I did an OPK yesterday and it was really faint. Today is darker but still not pos. I'm thinking tomorrow will be pos and I'll O right on cd 14. That would be a first for me, in a very long time. But I've been taking B6 100mgs for my LP and I hear it can sometimes help you O on time too.

What do you think?

I have one, and wasn't super thrilled with it, but I felt like my ferning patterns or whatnot looked nothing like any of the pictures, fertile or not!

I am thinking about getting it back out this time around, though, if AF ever comes and I ever start another cycle.

Ah crap, you're stuck in limbo land eh? Been there...

Yea I found that it looks kinda different than the pictures but still obvious ferning so I'm not mad. Could you still tell if it was or not? Or were you kind of humming and hawing over it?

i use of of those, but considering it is supposed to indicate estrogen levels, i am confused as i dont get ferning at the same time as cm....not sure why.....

Hmm strange. Maybe there's a delay in the estrogen producing the cm, and the cm making it's way out of your body... Or something...

I got one and wasn't too impressed, either. I had like one fern the day I got a pos OPK and then none the day FF (and I) think I ov'd. After that I read a lot about false negatives with them.

That said, if it confirms your other signs (as it sounds like it is for you right now) then I'd say go DTD!!!

We DTD just in case

Someone mentioned to me that CM is actually more reliable for ferning than saliva. Is that true?
If so, would BD'ing ruin the ferning?

You can use CM for ferning. Semen doesn't fern so you can use the scope to tell the difference. They are tricky to use but once you get the hang of them they're nice. Ferning comes a couple days before a positive OPK so you get extra notice. OPKs never worked for me because of PCOS so the scope was a nice alternative.

Ok thanks. That's cool. It's always impossible for me to tell if it's CM or semen.

But now I'm super confused because:
cd 12 and 13 I got full ferning.
Cd 14 was partial,
Cd 15 was none.
Now today, cd 16 I got a partial or better, again. But I did an OPK today and it's almost pos! Gonna do another in a sec. I think it will be pos. But I'm spotting!! I'm so confused. Am I about to o? or get af? or what?! If it's O, why did the ferning stop several days too early?
Your body may have geared up to o but not actually done so. I'd think that's most likely. I would DTD today for sure!!

Yea that's what I thought too. It was gearing up for it but never happened. But then if I'm gonna O now, for real, shouldn't I have had a day or 2 of full ferning? So weird. Maybe tomorrow's will have ferning and that'll be enough?

ETA. We did BD yesterday and we will again today
post #12 of 15
Well I tell you. i have one and am confused by it still. Last month I got partial positives and one full positive ferning day, which then turned to no ferning for the rest of the month... the ferns appeared and disappeared more than a full week before my CF was fertile... so maybe 10 days before O. Not so helpful. And here on CD 5, end of AF, I got a partial ferning yesterday, but none today. I am quite sure O is a good 2 weeks away (usually is for me). So that's pretty unreliable. I do not think they are all created equal though. I believe i spent about 20 bucks on mine, and they sell up costing around $100 dollars ... maybe those are better? DK.

Hmm I doubt paying more will give better results. I mean, all it is, is drying saliva on glass. I doubt a different scope would help it dry better, KWIM?
I think the tricky part is getting just the right amount of saliva on the thing. And also I think some people's hormones aren't the best for using a scope. I read that those with PCOS might get ferning all the time, and it means nothing. Although the previous poster didn't seem to have a problem with that.
Trial and error I guess. I definately wouldn't use it as my ONLY source of fertility window testing.

Re: your spotting-

I had ovulation spotting this cycle. I NEVER get ovulation spotting. I have no clue what was different about this cycle other than that I ended up pregnant but obviously the spotting was not a sign that I was pregnant since it happened at ovulation!

Some women get it every time, some women get it sometimes, some women never get it. Until this cycle, I was in the never category.

So I would certainly say its not likely af and for ya.

Thanks maeryn!
I read a long time ago that spotting at O could mean it's a really good egg. Maybe that's why you conceived!
I hope I do O and don't get stupid af. I hate anov cycles. You don't even get a *chance* to conceive.
I did a second OPK just now and it's not darker. Maybe tomorrow's will be pos. I tend to have long surges.
What cramping I had is completely gone. I'll check my Diva cup in a few hours to see if the bleeding stopped or picked up.
