ok to answer NO to may we contact this employer?

Thread Starter
so I have an in-person interview on Thursday for an engineering company, and they want me to fill out their online application. On the previous work experience section, it says 'may we contact this employer?'. Though it was for a summer internship position, I don't think I really made a good impression there. I got a virus on the computer once, my supervisor wrote an email to me saying that I constantly submitted my graphs to him improperly since they often didn't include titles and headings, and I just didn't really fit in and make any friends there. Hence, I really don't want this new employer to know the details of my previous internship. How badly will this affect my chances of getting hired if I put 'no'?

also, a slightly related question i have. I graduated with my BS degrees last December 2009. But during the winter 2010 quarter, I took 2 additional classes, through my school's extension service (it lets those with BS degrees take additional undergrad classes). During my phone interview for this position a couple weeks ago, the interviewer asked if I was taking any more classes, and I said I wasn't, even though i was. On my resume, under the 'relevant courses', I listed those 2 courses. Since my school's extension service is separate from the actual school, those extra 2 courses I took don't show up on my main school's transcript. For the interview on Thurs, they want me to bring my unofficial transcripts, but they said they may later on ask for official transcripts. Should i include the transcript for my school's extension service? Or just try to hide the fact that I took them, since during the phone interview I didn't mention that I was taking those courses?

If I were interviewing you and you marked "no" on anyone but your current employer, I would want to know why.

I agree.

And I don't think it's a good idea to lie in an interview either.

Why would you hide the fact that you were taking classes?
