what color sidng should I consider?

we should be getting our very ugly mint green siding replaced this spring
and I am thinking about colors. I'm not really picky but it's fun to think about options. So, I've been driving around looking at houses to see what Ilike best. My favorite are sagey greens, but I think that may be too trendy you know? We have a small cape style house with a sun porch on the front. I live in Maine so we are foliage-less for much of the year. The houses right next to us are white and yellow. (does that matter?) Oh and the roof is black shingles. We will be having the eaves and and around the doors and windows done- I think that needs to be white.

Thanks

I was going to suggest white or yellow. I prefer something timeless. We painted our white farmhouse two years ago...you guessed it, white. I couldn't bring myself to change the color. Sage green would look very nice, I don't think it's too trendy.

I'm always partial to blue.

I know it is kinda boring but If I could ever afford to reside I would go with a khaki color.

I would suggest blue too.

I think I would go with either the woodstock brown or the timberbark. It would look really nice with black shingles and white trim.

Here is the site I found those colors on:

It's so hard to choose! We'll be residing this year or next and I'm already thinking of colours. I'm leaning towards sticking with what we have... white with dark green shutters. I know, unoriginal. My advice would be to go for something classic vs trendy (which would soon look dated) and to make sure you don't clash with the neighbours.

We just had our siding done, and I was so excited looking at colors, but in the end decided something neutral is best if we ever decide to sell. We were between white and beige, and they had a surplus of white. We saved a lot of $ by sticking with white.

I also love a mossy/sage green but DH doesn't like it. My second favorite is slate blue. Of course, white is classic, and works well when the architecture can speak for itself. Yellow can be fun on the right house.

I think the texture of the siding counts for a lot, though. I don't care for the look of vinyl siding and if I had to use it, I think I might choose a very neutral color (like white or tan) so as not to draw attention to the texture. If I got my dream color, sage or slate blue, I would want wood siding to compliment it.

Our house has a black roof and white windows/garage door, and when we painted last time we chose barn read (a dark rusty red). It is beautiful! It looks fantastic as a backdrop to our trees and flower gardens in the summer, and beautiful against the snow in the winter.

When we bought our house, we painted it light gray (the color was called pewter, but it was more of a silver), and we were very happy with that for a long time, but the red is much richer and warmer. I don't know how we put up with the gray for so long.

Since you said black roof and you're doing white trim maybe a grey-blue for the siding? Or you could go with tan, every time I see a black/tan/white combo on a house it just looks so crisp, even though it's not that exciting.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going with a shade of tan/khaki- just have to pinpoint the shade but I think it will look quite nice. I'm really liking the yellow option (it's a golden shade) but I think it will look strange next to the neighbors light yellow!

If there is a big difference on the white I am sure my frugal genes will kick in and we'll go with that.

You've decided- which is great, that's always the hardest part for me

I have a cape that's blue gray, I really like it, but what I really wanted was red
It looks so homey to me, red with white trim and black shutters

Your house will look so nice!
