I remember the day he was shot like it was yesterday...

My parents won tickets to see the Beatles when my mom was pg with me...so I was there too!

I have loved them forever and consider myself quite the authority on all things Beatles..(hence my username)..John has such a special place in my heart. I remember when the movie Imagine came out..I bawled right there in the theater Such a senseless tragedy.

His music still touches me and my children are growing up surrounded by it as well....

Give peace a chance

Amen.

Before I was a Deadhead, I was a hardcore Beatle freak. My folks still have my Beatles collection in a closet ... including the literally thousands of pictures that I used to wallpaper my wall ... and that's no exaggeration, there was no exposed wall on three walls of my bedroom, entirely covered with Beatles, from about 6th grade through high school ...

:sigh

This is going to sound weird, but ... last year the Dakota (the building John&Yoko lived in ... Yoko's still there ...) did some renovations, including putting down new sidewalk on the 72nd Street side. Walking past it the first time and seeing that they had jackhammered up & carted away the sidewalk where he was shot made me feel ... kind of violated.

Is that weird?

It's such a loss.

Remembering being away at college (Buffalo, NY) when he was killed, and getting phone calls all through the night from friends from my youth ... condolence calls ...

Used to take my babies to Strawberry Fields often, to hang out ... the last time I was there was 9/11/02, figuring that on the 1st anniversary of 9/11 it would be a good place to meditate and be calm ... and was horrified to see the place overrun with rats in the bright sunshine of the morning. Complained to the city about that ... don't know if they've done anything to clean it out ... was so skeeved that I haven't been back since ...

Just rambling.

It would have been so nice to age with John, you know? To see him age, I know it would have been with so much depth and insight for all of us ...

Thats funny Amy about your "wallpaper".

When I was in college I photocopied every piece of Beatle paraphenalia I could find and plastered every bit of space with all these random Beatle pics...I loved it and was really bummed when i moved out of that place because I plastered them so good I had to destroy them to get them off

Good thing they were just photocopies....

For xmas this year dp got me a DVD called "John Lennon Unauthorised".

It has alot of cool footage of him when he was super young and alot of never before seen interviews.

I highly recommend it to all Lennon/Beatle lovers

There are places I remember,
All my life, though some have changed,
Some forever, not for better,
Some have gone and some remain.
All these places had their moments,
With lovers and friends I still can recall,
Some are dead and some are living,
In my life I've loved them all.
But of all these friends and lovers,
There is no one compared with you,
And these mem'ries lose their meaning,
When I think of love as somthing new.
Though I know I'll never lose affection,
For people and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In my life I'll love you more.
Though I know I'll never lose affection,
For people and things that went before,
I know I'll often stop and think about them,
In my life I'll love you more.
In my life I'll love you more.

Our first dance at our wedding & my fav. Beatles song

It's my favorite too, pammysue

I sing "In My Life" to my babies and it chokes me up every time.

"Imagine" always brings a tear to my eye as well.

Part of the chorus to "Imagine" was my signature(?) in my HS yearbook senior year.

My college friend & I would stay up all night having "John Lennon sessions" where we'd talk about absolutely everything & anything. The Beatles were playing in the background of course. We still call any deep, spiritual discussions a John Lennon session.

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world can live as one

ITA.

In middle school, my sis and my best friend and I were totally into the Beatles when everyone else was getting into Loverboy, the Go Gos...that kind of music. Other kids made fun of us because we were all infatuated with the Beatles and their music...what a bunch of uneducated morons those other kids were.

Another thing that has me so impressed with John was the way he was a wonderful father to Sean in the last few years of John's life. It's too bad it took him so long to figure out that parenting is a wonderful thing as I am sure Julian always felt abandoned by his dad. Oh well. That's another convo.

My favorite John Lennon song....hmmm, I will have to ponder this question. The man truly was a genius. I had the pleasure of viewing some of his original artwork last year. I couldn't afford to purchase any of the prints, man they were pricey. I was bummed.

Here's to John! One of the coolest of the cool....

I also was very shaken by his killing, and can still feel emotional about it. I was up pulling an all-nighter in my dorm room when they announced it on the radio. He was truly one of those special ones chosen to put forth an important message.

I was in Jr. High. I was a huge Beatles fan & my Dad got tickets to take me to see Beatlemania. It was as close as I'd ever get to seeing the Beatles play & I was so excited to go with just my dad!

We had a great time & he got me a t-shirt & a program.

The next day, John Lennon was killed.

So weird.

Still makes me so sad.
