Yucky smell in motherease cover... suggestions?

I have tried everything I know to do to get rid of a weird, "earthy" smell in one of my motherease diaper covers. It was accidentally left in a bag with a wet prefold (for a while, I don't know how long!)... it has no mildew or anything on it, appears to be in perfect shape, but it has a very strong, very "earthy" smell to it... what can I do to get the smell out??

Have you tried vinegar? Wash it with regular laundry and a cup of vinegar, acetic acid banishes all smells. Another suggestion is to soak it in coffee, sounds weird and can stain but eradicates weird smells. Also a few hours in the sunshine can freshen up most anything.
