It is the middle of the night and she is scratching her head

Two nights ago I noticed that my one year old would rub her head a little at night. I did not think anything of this. Now, she is scratching her head all over and it is 12 am. She can't sleep. So I ran my fingers over her scalp and it feels flaky. It looks like dandruff. She did have cradle cap as a newborn but it went away. I didn't notice anything because she has a full set of hair. Right now my husband is cutting her nails.

She also has little bumps across the forehead where her hair normally is.

We believe it is because we are not rinsing her hair well enough. She hates getting her hair rinsed so we try to do it as fast as possible. Also, I believe my husband uses too much shampoo but he says that as long as we rinse it well it shouldn't matter.

Sounds like you may need to use a different shampoo, rinse it really well (I personally do not agree with using more than needed and rinsing extra), perhaps try a bit of TTO for the itching-NOT near eyes!

Is she hot and sweaty while sleeping? Do you bathe just before bed, after breakfast, before dinner? How often is the scalp being shampooed?

She is hot and sweaty while sleeping. She sweats at 72 degrees. We bath every other night and shampoo less because she hated it so much. We do this about 1 hour before bedtime.

What is TTO?

Tea Tree Oil.

I would also look at the ingredients of the shampoo you are using and make sure it does not have any sulfates (sodium laurel sulfate for example is the most common). These ingredients are very irritating on the scalp, and can exacerbate dryness and itching like you describe.

Okay. We did recently change from Johnson's & Johnson's to California Baby. I thought CB would be better but I guess not.

Thanks.

California Baby does not have sodium laurel sulfate so that's not the issue. It does take longer to rinse out than J&J though, so that may be.

CB does have a tea tree and lavender shampoo that might be good for your DD.

Is it the unscented or the scented CB shampoo? She might be having an allergic reaction to one of the fragrances in the shampoo. CB is what most people (at least, most people on MDC) consider better than J&J, since it uses gentler detergents, but that doesn't mean that a particular individual isn't going to have a reaction to an certain ingredient.

After all, flowers growing in a field are lovely and natural and most people think of them as better than artificial flowers, but those natural flowers make many people sneeze.

It just seemed lighter. I was using the bubble bath one. I will go today to look for the alternatives.

It is the unscented super sensitive bubble bath one.

Does it have phenoxyethanol in it? I am allergic to that and my scalp will break out. I scratch until my head bleeds.
