Can I really use Grandma El's w/my CD?

I just bought some Grandma El's to try, but I am so hesitant to use any type of cream on my cloth diapers. Is this really safe to use with every change--it won't cause repelling issues?

I am sort of desperate for a "miracle cure" so I don't have to give up my cloth dipes. DD is really sensitive to wetness. I constantly battle redness with her, and she's had an ammonia burn for almost a week that appeared suddenly after a single night in the same diaper. (She sleeps through the night so she's in the same dipe for 8-10 hours.) I'm hoping Grandma El's is the answer, but I'm really scared to put anything on my nice diapers!

i don't know about the diaper cream, but could your diapers have build up? how often is she getting changed? what type of diaper are you using? maybe there are other things you can try to help with her poor bum, in addition to the diaper cream. oh and you can also get liners or make them cheaply to help protect the diapers.

I haven't tried that FWIW though I coat my babies bum in targets brand A&D ointment every night and some dya time changes and I use stay dry fabrics even at night and it all washes out perfectly fine. I also use cornstarch powder during the day after changing messy diapers to make sure she is nice and dry and that also washes out fine.

I change her every 2-3 hours during the day, maybe 4 if she's napping. At night she goes usually 8 hours between changes. I have stripped my diapers with RLR and use Rockin' Green detergent. Wash routine is a cold rinse, hot wash with detergent, and cold rinse, dry in the dryer. I use prefolds, Flip, and lots of different kinds of pockets. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of diaper she's wearing. I'm at my wit's end! She's also still EBF, and I'm really scared of how her skin will react once she's on solids because I know my son had lots more rash issues once he moved on to solid foods.

If I use liners and rash cream, can I throw those liners in the wash with the rest of my diapers, or do I have to wash them separately?

I don't know about washing the liners, but maybe you should try Hot washs cycles for your rinses (most washers don't have hot rinses hense a hot wash with no soap to act as a rinse) IMO cold water does nothing to get detergent out of your diapers.

Do you diapers smell at all when she pees in them? That is usually a good indicator of build up. I use all sorts of creams with my diapers, thick lotions, everything but Desitin and have never had a problem. I would probably stick to using your prefolds with the cream though just in case. ( I'm not familiar with that brand of cream).

You could also try doing just a hot rinse after your wash, you want to see no suds before you throw them in the dryer. Depending on your detergent that could be up to 3 or 5 hot rinses.

Let us know what you figure out.

I never did anything fancy with the diapers- just washed them pretty much like normal laundry, sometimes even just mixed in with clothes & sheets & towels. I never had any problems with any diaper creams, and often used plain olive oil on diaper rash. Also used California Baby and Burt's Bee's brands. The Butt Paste stained but did not affect the absorbency of the diapers. Of course I was using home-made diapers made from rags, so I never worried about hurting them. Best treatments for diaper rash I've tried: change as soon as it's wet/dirty. After every change, clean baby with plain water, I used my peri-wash bottle. Pat dry and then let her air out- don't put on the clean diaper for a few minutes. Don't use a waterproof/plastic cover, instead use fleece, wool, or some breathable fabric cover. Or no cover at all. Covers keep you dry but keep baby very wet.

for liners you can just cut up strips of fleece. the ends dont fray, and you can find it super cheap at a fabric store. also poop rolls off that really easily once they move on to solids and you have to dump in the toilet. while my dd was exclusively bfd though, she almost always had a red bum. the only time it ever went away was if i had a day where i managed to realize she had wet or pooped and changed her right away consistently throughout the day. even now i make sure she is changed at least every hr and a half (dh isn't as good with this), and she still gets a rash if she poops two changes in a row. try what some of the other pp's have suggested and let us know how it goes!
