9.5 mo old and solid foods

Was wondering if anyone has any advice or was going through the same thing. My lo is not all that interested in solid foods - I offer and sometimes he'll eat some, but mostly he just plays with it and that's all.

I am still nursing on demand, but for some reason I feel like my milk supply is decreasing. I'm not sure how to actually tell for sure though.

At our 9 mo ped visit, she suggested that I start supplementing b/c he didn't gain as much as she would have liked. He was 19lb7oz. Here's a history of his weight gain:

birth - 9lb1oz
4 mo - 16lb2oz
6 mo - 18lb4oz
9 mo - 19lb7oz

What do you all think? He seems content, but I feel like he doesn't do as much "active" drinking at he breast. His diapers seem to be a bit lighter as well. But he doesn't complain when nursing like he's not getting enough. Also, shouldn't he be more interested in solids by now?

Thanks for your thoughts and insight! Just nervous, I want him to get what he needs. I seem to be stressed these days and feel like breastfeeding is running my life. Thanks!

your ped wants you to supplement with what? formula? that is their standard answer IMO. It could be because the formula industry gives them millions of dollars a year. This is old, but it happened http://www.nytimes.com/1993/06/15/bu...pagewanted=all

Some children are not interested in solids until 12 mo. As long as you are offering unrestricted access to the breast 24/7 (no time limits, no other nipples, holding the child often so they can go for the nip if they want it (no bra if possible)), drinking enough fluids and eating a healthy (hopefully dairy free) diet, you should be making enough milk. Is the child alert? Doing developmental things? I think the weight sounds fine. Most breastfed babies weigh differently than formula ones, perhaps because formula has HFCS in it. dd1 was stuck at 20 lbs for a really long time, and then was stuck on 40 for along time. As long as your child seems healthy, don't let the worry and hype get ya... dd1 didn't want solids till 10 mo, dd2 was earlier at 8 mo. When you offer, offer only pure foods (foods that can be eaten raw, even if you are offering them cooked) ie organic fruits and veggies (I waited with grains, and now we are gluten free anyway...). Mine both loved avocado and carrots (I cooked them and took outer layer off for them....) I like the kellymom site for solids info....

this is the basic solids page, and there are lots of clickables leading to other parts...
