Any ideas?

My 5 year old has the following symptoms:
high fever (between 103-104) for 5 days
Sleeping 20 hours a day (normally sleeps 10-11)
Won't eat
Very thirsty- drinking TONs of water
A bit of coughing and sneezing but not much
Complained that it was pokey when she went pee
Hasn't pooped in a week
We will be sitting down playing and she will grab he "potty party" and yell that it hurts.

Went to the doctor and they did a:
urinalysis (positive for pus, white blood cells, blood)
Urine culture w/sensitivity- Clean
checked for yest- negative
strep test- Negative
and flu test- Negative

He put her on an antibiotic for a UTI. It has been 3 days and her fever still hasn't gone down and she is just laying around like a lump. The nurse just called with the urine culture results and I told her what was going on and she is going to have the dr. call. Any ideas from you ladies...I need to stay away from google.

I don't know a lot about this, but my first thought is:

extra Vitamin C
pro-biotics

I'm so sorry she's going through this! Hope she gets to feeling better too.

Did the dr give a specific abx for the specific bacteria present?

If not, then it could be the wrong abx and that's why it's not working.

If it were me, I would definitely be calling the dr. again, she has been sick for a while and the abx should have brought some relief by now.

Other things that are a preventative for UTI's are D.Mannose - it's a powder and tastless, you can dissolve it in water. It won't cure her UTI but if it's caused by e.coli bacteria it could help clear some of it at least.

I would also be upping the Vit c, spacing the probiotics between the abx doses, and having her drinking cranberry juice if she'll tolerate it.

Poor girl - I hope she feels better soon.

What about some kind of bowel inflammation, which could be contributing to the UTI?

I agree with high doses of vitamin C and probiotics, to see if that gets things moving. I'd also try an epsom salts bath. You'll want to space the probiotics between antibiotic doses, and use the sodium ascorbate form of vitamin C.

When the nurse called did she say that the abx they had given you was sensitive to the bacteria she has? It sounds like she may be on the wrong abx, b/c there should be some relief after 3 days of meds.

Hope she is feeling better soon!

We are doing the probiotics (Florstor and cuturelle) and Vit C. -

The urinalysis said there was an infection (blood, WBC and Pus) but the culture didn't grow anything.

She developed a rash so they are going to check her for Kawasaki.

Thanks for your replies.
