Just a big whiny rant..............

S. is almost eight and most of the time I just think he's another version of "normal". We've had several diagnosis and nothing really fits. He's had a terrible week, back talked the sitter, his instructor at martial arts, the instructor at after school, and me. Back talking means he rolled his eyes, used a sarcastic voice and said, "No." He's allowed to say "No", I just expect him to be respectful..He cried at his after school program and has been chewing everything in sight (his finger nails, anything rubber, toe nails and ate something off the floor). Usually he only bites his nails. He has SPD and ADHD.

He's whinny and crying a lot. His dad was gone on business for a week and S. recently had a huge leap cognitively and emotionally. He's learn to read and write. He's home schooled. Usually when has a big leap, he regresses behaviorally for a few days.

I just wasn't prepared for the litany of misbehavior I was told when I picked him up from after school. He ate his boogers, sucked on his fingers, refused to change for martial arts class, argued with the instructors when he got on the floor, ate something off the floor, and basically acted about three years younger then he is. They were shocked by the way he acted. He said he was bored, sick and didn't want to do class. I guess I should be glad they were shocked. He's running a temp and has a sore throat. I'm just not use hearing this crap any more. He had a horrible time inn kindergarten last year and I was having flash backs.

I'm angry because there are a lot of things I like to do (social skills classes, chiropractor, a homeopath) that we just can't afford do to DH's 50% pay cut I realize like the clock ticking phase of 2006, the chewing stage 2007, the hopelessly in love the teaching assistant phase of 2009, this to will pass. I really thought this would be easier.

My DD with PDD-NOS is much, much worse when she is sick. When she is healthy and in her happy place, it's hard to believe she is on the autism spectrum at all. When she is stressed or sick or a combination, she isn't funtional. At all. (as in I've looked into a theraputic school that is one step up from inpatient care).

Let him get healthy and see how much of this goes away. It could just be a nasty combination of the stress from dad's work, readjusting from his cognitive leap, and illness.
