Serious eye infection

I don't know if anyone's been through this or can lend some support/resources.
Two weeks ago my father had cataract surgery. The very next day he developed a horrible infection. He's been treated with eye drops, injections of antibiotics, etc, all to no avail. Today the specialist insisted that he have immediate surgery to remove the pockets of infection, etc. The surgeon gave us a very dim prognosis, because upon examination, my father wasn't able to see light out of the affected eye and I know that's not a good sign. As I type, he is waiting to go into the OR.
Has anyone been through this or know anyone who has? Any suggestions for this very frustrating, scary and dangerous case?
TIA.

I've had cataract surgery in both eyes and surgeries in both eyes for detached retina. Thank god the healing went ok. But it was all very scary and I really feel for you and your father.
The only advice I can give you is make sure you have the best doc possible. I know he is waiting to undergo the surgery now but if he has further problems or even if he doesn't-a second opinion might be a good idea.
Did he take steroid drops and antibiotic drops after his cataract surgery?
My best to you both.

Wow, thank you so much for your response. I am very confident in his surgeon as I called around to folks who've used him and everyone raved about him. Interestingly, they mentioned detached retina but I wasn't sure if that was the cause for the sight loss or if the infection was the cause.
He did both steroid and antibiotic drops and injections post surgery. It helped just a little but not enough and certainly didn't restore his vision.

Just got a call from my mom. The doc was unable to see the retina so there's still a question as to whether or not the sight will return. The surgeon created an 'opening', that will hopefully heal the infection. Still waiting on more information. This is pure hell.
