to a babe who previously would not tolerate it in the mother's diet? He's 8 mo, not really eating much in the way of solids yet. He's been fine with me eating dairy since about 6 mo. I sometimes want to offer him tastes of my food, but a lot of what I eat has dairy or wheat in it (we are waiting on wheat because it's possible he inherited celiac from dh)

dd was mspi till about 5mos, so we are also holding back - they say you can intro dairy (yogurt/cheese) 6-9mos depending on who you talk to. we are waiting till 9mos to attempt, but it will not be a major part of her diet at that point. will prly hold off till closer to a year for really adding that stuff. regular milk.....not sure when we will intro that.....not at 12 mos, but not sure how long after. also depends on how she does with cheese.

I waited until a year, then had to try again at 15 months when DD would tolerate yogurt and cheese. Now, at almost 3 she still can't tolerate regular milk. There really isn't any harming is giving it a try, if you see that they don't tolerate it then back off again. 3 months seemed like a sensible number to me, I don't recall reading it anywhere though.

We tried at 6 months and he seemed ok at first, then the second week he suddenly couldn't tolerate it anymore and threw up all the blueberry yogurt he had eaten gradually through the day. That's how it's always been with him though, he seems ok with it first, then can't tolerate it at all.
We'll try again at a year or so, but I'm not expecting any changes. My son also didn't do well with gluten (celiacs in family). I don't think that will change either, but I'll try again at a year.

I think I would wait until after a year and then only give cultured dairy. You could give cultured cottage chese, yogurt and kefir once baby is old enough. I would definitely hold off until at least a year, though. Try beans, veggies and fruits now. Using those three groups of food will provide baby with a nice varied diet even without dairy.
