hair ideas for little girls with thin hair?

My dd is 3 and has such thin hair that it always breaks when we put it in little pony tails. This means that it is always pretty short on top and so I keep it cut short all the way around so that she doesn't have a mullet. I get jealous sometimes when I see all the other little girls her age with long pony tails and braids and stuff.

She pulls head bands out. Barrettes stay in a little longer but not usually longer than a half hour--they just don't grab her hair very well and slide out. I've tried lots of different kinds. So we're left with no hair style or a little ponytail or two on top (which breaks her hair).

I'm kind of resigned to it....but I wondered of there are mamas out there who are more creative than me!

I don't know what kind of barrettes you've tried, but snap clips seem to work pretty well for my dd. She seems to forget them and leave them alone better than bigger clips. We have them in a variety of sizes and colors.
Her hair is pretty thin, but dosen't break in pony tails. We use the small clear elastics or small knit ones if that matters.

I would probably be inclined to go with no hair baubles. Maybe just get a cute china doll hair cut.

According to my mother, she had really fine hair as a child and my grandmother would use corn syrup to glue bows to her hair (sticks like glue, washes out with just water). So there's an option if your dd asks for something pretty in her hair.

dd has the classic little girl bob: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...6&id=604877847

and she rarely asks for things in her hair. it's helped her hair thicken in the last year by not fussing with it and trimming it regularly. but i'm happy to oblige when she does ask for pigtails or a barrette.

Thanks, ladies!

I have used snap clips and they slip out. I even found a tiny one from when she was a baby--about an inch long--and it stays in a little better but still slips out. The clear elastic bands break her hair and the knit ones fall out.

I like the idea of just leaving her hair along as much as possible. She has a cute cut now but I have been reluctant to cut bangs. Her hair still tends to fall forward and I don't want bangs that are the whole top of her head. Maybe it would work to just cut a few bangs and then try to part the rest and comb in out of her face every day.
