afm, 8 dpo and i feel relaxed... headaches and nausea are coming and going, but i am not convinced of anything... DP, however, is sure this is the one. this of course is not the first time i have had nausea during my LP nor is it the first time DP was sure this was the one. not feeling discouraged though, feeling quite zen about it... only time will tell.

librarylady: sex selection has been around for a long time... It was available 8 years ago at least. I even asked the lady at the sperm bank if there were still higher rates of boys with frozen swimmers. I seem to remember back in the day hearing that boys were slightly more common.

On the name thing, we decided once I get knocked up we will say that the baby is going to be called Sara, since we have that name in common. We will come up with a different last name, haven't yet, but the baby will be Sara, girl or boy. That will annoy folks and amuse me. In all actuality, this one will have my last name, for simplicity.

AFU: So yesterday morning (5dpo), I went in to get my progesterone checked. I expected it would be fine, since my luteal phases look ok. My doctor emailed me last night and said it was a "bit low" at 8.8. Looking online and in books, I see that for the first trimester it would ideally be above 9 or above 10, depending on what source you use. But I also see that usually it isn't tested until 7dpo or later, and that progesterone blood tests tend to be somewhat inconsistent since levels of progesterone vary throughout the day and from day to day. My doctor suggested that I start progesterone supplements on Monday (and also said discouragingly "we can supplement the next cycle starting right after the IUI" ), but I'm not sure that makes sense--it seems too late for this cycle, and I'm reluctant to go on a medication that I'm not convinced I really need. Thoughts?

how funny, i had my progesterone draw yesterday too!! (7 dpo, for me) i haven't gotten the results yet, monday they said. hmmm, i don't know much about what the numbers all mean... i do know that the first cycle i did clomid, they checked my progesterone at CD24 (7dpo) and it was 24, they said that meant i had a very strong O... that's about all i know... sorry that's really of no help. i am on progesterone sups this month for the first time, so i am curious to see how it effects my level... i wouldn't think it too late to start the supplements, they had me start mine at 4 dpo... good luck

escher: Will they test your level again? It seems to me that if they want it above 9 and you're at 8.8 and a little early to test at that, that it should be fine...but my thought is that I don't think it could hurt either. Dunno. I've been doing the cream, so not so strong.

AFM: Spending the weekend with my family. My sister's son and daughter live with my parents, and my mom asked my other sister, her partner, and me to come play with the kids because she had an errand to run and didn't want to wake the kids up early. Turns out the errand was to pick up the third sister (kids' mom) who flew in from California as a surprise for everyone! She's in the Coast Guard and doesn't get a lot of leave (couldn't even come for my wedding)--I haven't seen her since last September. Looking forward to hanging out until I have to work tomorrow night, and not thinking about TTC much since they're all completely unaware.

re: progesterone - i'm not sure how valid it is at 5dpo. on our bfp cycle dp's was > 45 at 13dpo. when they tested hers at 7dpo on one of our bfn cycles it was 15 at 7dpo.

AFM- I had a positive LH surge this morning at 11am so we did our first insem ici, a little later today we will do the IUI. I'm waiting for my temperature to start dropping a little before the IUI, I'm really trying to get the timing perfect.

I have a QOTD- How long do you usually wait laying down after and ICI or IUI?

I waited an hour today, is that enough time? I will try to lay down for two after the IUI just for good measure.

max - It sounds like your timing will be perfect! I've got my fingers crossed for you already!

QOTD - I've only had one insemination, but this is what I did: After laying on the exam table for about 15 minutes, I went directly to the car and reclined the seat all the way and stuffed my sweater under my rear to elevate my hips a bit for the ride home. I got home 20 minutes later and went directly to bed. I took a nap that lasted almost 2 hours, then my sweetie brought me lunch in bed. I lounged around on the couch for a few hours after lunch. Brill recommends resting after insemination, so I took it to the extreme! Hopefully it worked!

Nothing out of the ordinary to report here. My breasts are still tender, and my temps are looking good. I did a lot of housework today to take my mind off things for a while. I'm not sure I'll be able to wait a whole week before testing!

painefaria & mtnlisa - congrast on the BFPs!!!!!!!!!!

QOTD: The first time I did the IUI I also reclined my seat all the way back and went to sleep when I got home. The second time, after the 10 minutes I went about the day as usual. This is when I got my BFP.

So, this time around, I did pretty much the same thing.

AFM, we went to the $ store yesterday and I intended to buy 3 tests for Sunday, Monday & Tuesday (beta on Wed). DW said I should buy another and test today. Against my better judgment I did and got a BFN. I felt less pregnant today and maybe it's because of the test. Anywho, I will still be testing tomorrow and on. The last BFP I got was so light DW doesn't think it was there. When I got my beta the next day, I was preggers!

Found a site called countdowntopregnancy.com and I like using it to keep track of my symptoms and compare to others. Though I know that everyone is different and sometimes each pg is different, I like to track it.

wehrli - i'm lovin the zen approach!

coco - that whole ovulation thing seems a little wonky! i'm sorry you guys have to wait another month. i've heard wonderful things about clomid working well for a lot of people, so i'm optimistic for you both!

amandamom: you are almost there! almost there!

maxk: i hope you catch that ovulation perfectly! with at home inseminations, we always did them right before bed, so essentially, things were elevated all night. moving on to the RE's office, we mainly just keep it at 15 minutes or so, and try to minimize the afterwards activity. i think an hour is fine!!

escher12 - it seems like the p-rone is fitting into the can't hurt, may help category. i don't know how long it takes your blood work to come back, but perhaps you could get a script for it, and also get tested again on monday, assuming they have same day testing turn around. if it is still low, you can fill the script and start taking it asap. if not, you can trash the script. i'm saying that because i know you are weary of taking a medication you may not need. that sounds like a good compromise, especially considering you were tested so early for it. i hope you find a resolution.

afu - DP had an ultrasound on wednesday, which reported that she had not ovulated yet. they also did her blood levels and it showed that she wasn't close to ovulation. I think at that point, the follie was at 18mm. So, they had us trigger that night, which we did, at around 10pm. DP had her insemination on friday and the doctor said her os was nice and open and there were globs of cervical mucus, which are both good signs. the night before (thursday), she felt pinching, which she said felt like ovulation. it went away, but then came back a few hours after the insemination. she reported that she felt like her uterus was full, which is different from our other experiences with RE iui's. so we are hopeful for this cycle.

i'm analyzing a bit, but i don't want to be obsessive. she has been a tad more hungry and more sleepy than usual, but we have also been having some long days. so who knows.

can you please move us to waiting?

kimlyn32- Thanks for sharing your waiting story. Brill's book says that resting (doesn't say how long) after IUI can triple your chances of getting pregnant. However, I know a few other people who became preg and did not rest hardly at all after the IUI.

AFM- We did our IUI last night at about 11PM then went to bed. I felt like the timing was good for yesterday but today when I woke up my temp was 97.33 which is normal. I was really expecting it to have surged to 98.

AFM, I have great news! My KD had his semen analysis repeated today (bc he and his wife are trying, too), and it was AWESOME! This was a real concern before. When he did the testing a few months ago (before making the deposits that we've been using for IUIs--gulp), the counts and morphology were quite low. We've been combining vials for the IUIs and have also planned to use one fresh shipment (BioTranz type overnight thing) per cycle (though we haven't gotten the timing right on the fresh shipment yet). With such high numbers, I'm actually thinking of taking this month off from the IUI and just doing two fresh shipments. Getting the timing right on the IUI is really hard for me, and the IUI itself is expensive. For much less money, we could do two fresh (well...24 hours after production but alive and well in the egg yolk buffer...never frozen) insems. I had only hesitated before to rely on the fresh because I was afraid his counts were low and that the swimmers might need the boost of the IUI. So I'm thinking we'll do fresh this month, and that makes me really happy and relaxed. I think. Though I've never tried without an IUI... Sigh.

As for the QOTD, when I've done IUIs (four cycles total with one pregnancy), I've rested on the table for 15 minutes afterward. When I get home, though, I try to rest some more. With ICIs, I give it at least an hour, rolling gently from side to side to stomach to back, as Brill suggests (though I've only done one of those). With the fresh insems this month, I'll get the shipments in the morning...so I'm not sure what I'll do. I'll probably try to take the morning off, if I can, and stay in bed for a few hours.

Quick question: for those who use the CB Monitor, how many days of high do you usually get before peak?

FF makes it look like your cycles are usually at least 12 days, right Wehrli? With a temp drop (which I'm not sure I'd call "huge" exactly...nowhere near the cover line) on day 10 when you should still have a few days before AF...there might well still be a chance for this cycle. I hope so! Hang in there.

max - Just remember, temps aren't everything. Sometimes when I feel like I ovulated really late at night, my temp doesn't show a dramatic spike. Your timing could have been excellent!
