goat keepers - question about herd behavior

Our Penny is a one-year-old dairy goat who we brought home several weeks ago. She has been bred once, but her baby was sold to someone else, so she's alone here. I want to get her a companion, and I'd like for it to be a sheep instead of another goat. From preliminary research, it seems sheep and goats are fine together as herdmates.

My question is that she has her horns. I was thinking of trying to get a lamb, hoping that they wouldn't fight over dominance that way. Is that realistic? DH thinks we should get an older female instead.

4-H lambs are starting to be advertised quite a bit around here, so it seems an ideal time to find her a herdmate. Any disadvantages to getting a younger one that I'm not thinking about?

TIA!

My goats have horns and live together with my polled sheep. The goats are accepted as dominant, and there is no fighting. The most dominant goat and the most dominant sheep seem to have a special agreement. Overall, the flock is very peaceful. I have a wether who occasionally "feels his oats" and likes to try to start something with a goat, but it never goes anywhere.
