October 2009 DDC chat for April - Page 5

andrea - am hoping things improve for your little guy. it's hard to watch them suffering in any way and hopefully this will be a bump in the road and be done soon. with ds1 i worried a lot and we went through a lot more with him being a preemie and i remember feeling like things would never be normal - eventually they were but it didn't feel that way when we were in it.

jen - the amazing millie - little go-getter. yeah winter away was great. we came back to record high temps (it's closer to normal, late spring weather now) so it was an easier transition. but our yard is more of a weed garden now so we've been working on that this past weekend...can't believe my 3yr old actually did help some of the time!

becca - hope things turn around quickly on the job front for dh. that kind of stress sucks

afm, everett is still doing the non-productive teething thing - off and on. am hoping the teeth cut soon (i can see 4 that are ready to come in - callum was similar in that he cut his 1st 5 teeth all the same week at 7mths)

everett has been crawling for about a month ago and can get into a lot of things so we've had to be a bit tidier now - nothing prompts cleaning more than a mobile bub, lol!

am pretty happy that i am being courted to work at 2 clinics. so i am able to pick and choose my hours in the evening and weekends, and both are really nice clinics within walking distance of home. with 2 babies in 3yrs, i have a lot of rebuilding of clientele to do so my home practice will have to wait. the split is good enough that it almost matches what i would make from home so all good things. i turned down a new job at a nearby spa, but i really want to be able to both stay at home and work - at least dh is on parental leave until august so we have time to see what hours will work...man i write long replies.

have a beautiful day mamas.

Thanks for the good vibes, everyone! We're still in shock but doing ok. I'm a little depressed today but I can at least blame the rainy weather here. I'm starting to look for jobs and "network," which is probably my least favorite thing to do in the world. Ugh.

In NON-depressing news, DS is 16 pounds and is my silly little chunky monkey. If there's anything better than the sound of his laugh, I don't know what it could be.

Has anyone else noticed your baby's nursing patterns changing? Right around 6 months I noticed a definite change. He was always a slooooow eater, we'd have marathon 40-60 minute nursing sessions, but now he's Mr. Eat & Run. Nurses like 5-10 minutes and then he's done. I worry about him not getting enough, so I keep offering and switching sides, but it just seems like he knows when he's done. We're starting to introduce solids, which he's definitely interested in, but the quicker nursing actually started a week or two before that. I guess this is just what happens as they get older? Is this normal?

Jen/B4M: Millie is adorable, and the pulling up is *very* impressive! Moving to a lower COL place is certainly a possibility. Most of the jobs my DH would want/could get are in NYC, so it's sort of a catch-22. We'll see how things go with our respective job searches...
Jen/pookie: We actually used to live in the Pacific NW and I would totally love to move back. Who knows, maybe we will!
Andrea: Good luck with the probiotics & Prevacid. Hugs to you and your little man.
Ms Vycky: Another long & lean babe! My DS is 16 lbs and 27 inches. Here's to our little string beans!
StarMora: Crawling, how exciting! We have sooo much babyproofing to do before DS gets mobile!

you are in my thoughts, becca! what does your dh do, if you don't mind me asking? my dh is looking for a good comp/it/technology person to fill a spot! col here is reasonable, if you don't like in a turn of the century house with no insulation!

arlene...crawling? wow! millie can't get her fat belly off the ground. i love that your 3 yr old helps. natalie just digs holes lol! good luck on the working front...

so i checked at wic today and their administrator is not bf friendly and denied the request to start a peer bf position. guess i'll need to write a letter! they said no b/c of budget cuts, but the ff rate in our county is at an all-time high. ugh.

and millie gained another 11 oz since her dr appt on the 16th lol. she had better slow down or the new mei tai i made will become very uncomfy!

Stacy cut her first tooth a week ago, or maybe it was a bit more than a week, and has been grabbing things off my plate, so we may be introducing solids soon. Will discuss at her WBV on Thursday, which I hope goes well -- she seems skinny to me. She has a rash on her chin that worries me but it's gotten better since that tooth cut through. She can sit for a brief period on her own but then falls backward or forward. She can roll from back to belly, and, my goodness, fell off the bed last night! She has taken to rolling away from me after nursing so I think that's how it happened. Not sure what to do -- our bed is a platform bed and I am using the space under it to store her diapers and clothes since there really isn't much room in our apartment (two bedrooms, and ds's toys take up most of the other one). What to do?

OMG this month has flown by. I missed all you mamas!

April has been super busy for us - jack's first cold, the sixth month growth spurt, right now in the middle of cutting his first teeth, a week long visit from my sister, her husband and their three kids. Plus I've had to design and layout two books for the publisher I work for (which I usually have to work in over a sleeping baby attached to my boob )

here's some recent pics: http://rebeccamaslen.blogspot.com/

here's what I've discovered this month:
-- Jack is a high needs baby. I'm just owning up to this and getting everyone else to respect that.
-- in the past four weeks he has demanded, tasted and liked: bananas, yogurt, applesauce, pears and coconut water. He demanded and didn't like cheese and sweet potatoes. Giving him tastes of things is so much fun!
-- he's gotten really good at handling toys and his spoon, but he shows no interest in crawling (HATES tummy time). They all do things in their own time and way.
-- just when I thought my boobs would get a little break from 2-3 hr feedings, everything this month blew that up I'm glad we were able to finally get rid of the nipple shield. Now we've nursed at the Phillies game, the zoo and Please Touch museum without any problems. YEA!
-- I'm hoping he'll start sleeping longer at night soon. He still wakes every 2-3 hours.
