Dingos are all Barefoot Marathoners! April Running Thread - Page 17

I know a lot of you are fighting to get back to what you were doing in HS track. Me? I was running 10 minute miles on a good day -- that is, days I only had to run a mile.

Tonight:

5 miles, 42:50.

First 5k was 25:44 (8:18 pace), so I blew that goal for 2010 out of the water. The 4th mile hurt, 5th felt good again but was HARD. Lovely chat with RP who I'll now call the chipper gazelle.

Me too. Even while nursing I mostly need a bra because something needs to hold the nursing pads.

DrJen, can you put me down for the Rendezvous Run for Independence on July 3? http://www.winterpark-info.com/index...s&eventID=2681

I ran 3.5 on the TM before work this AM and followed the run with some weights and ab work. My back is bugging from all the bent-over-clutching-animals jobs and I feel like I am holding my discs in place by sheer force of will. So I am doing what I can to keep that low back moving. Also getting a visit from AF, so at least I'm on the positive side of my dysmorphia today.

I set up my second batch of yogurt this AM before I left...and now I want a good (read:easy) granola recipe so I can make parfaits to pack for lunches. How awesome does that sound? I just went grocery shopping, too, so the house is loaded with produce.

Want to try for 5 tomorrow morning, but to do that I am going to have to get better with the waking up and getting stuff done. Had too much trouble getting out of bed this morning and it was 7 before I got out to milk. No good. I need to be done in the barn by 7. So off I go to bed.

OE, we're just glad you're joining us for the thread, the chats and the running.

Wendy, holy f@$%mole! Send some of that fast this way.

Wow Geo! Great run!

I finally got out on my bike tonight and rode for an hour. It was wonderful, but I'm beginning to wonder if I've done something bad (read: stress fracture) to my foot from my messed up gait. The bone leading to my big toe is THROBBING!

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting a friend to walk. We'll see how the ol' foot feels about that...

Bras....ugg due to weight loss from running and going off the pill I am now way down--I have passed my now too large ones on to my 13 y.o. dd.

Oh well.

Great run today. Looking forward to doing another 8-9 miler this week,

Dh has been invited back for a 2nd interview on Thurs. Prayers, well wishes, and good vibes are much appreciated.

I have to say I miss my old bra size

I will never catch up but I came here for the dingo hug.

La4 your mom-crush is making me

Geo, you are really smokin!

my 8 9? yo neighbor girl wears a bigger bra than I do.

I like my le creuset and my vitamix but for different purposes.

I perpetually calculate anything when I am running (or any other workout) also. If nothing else I will count my steps.

I had my last day of this class and it went amazingly well except she lost some of my project hours in her email inbox whatever that means. I want this to be over. I swear I will track my CEU/CERPS much better from now on. (I still say the biggest thing I learned was that my family still needs me here. I have no idea why I am putting us all through this.) I ate for doo-doo while I was gone and am feeling it. Tomorrow will be a horrendous day of catch up and I am going to bed before it is time to run the roads and run the day. I'll try to be more personable soon.

fyi, i went totally out on a limb and ordered a 34AA from macys.com (had a g.c. and needed bras) - they had one style so i figured wth! it rocks - if you go to their "bra finder" tool, you can selected by size, and then this one pops up.

yeah, but *trying to do math while i run keeps my brain really occupied!

no fm today - home with ds (tonsilectomy on friday - really he is f.i.n.e. but why not take some quiet time?), dr. appt., garden store, and a solo trip to ikea. whee!

Ok, I swear, I will be back to personals starting tomorrow when I don't have to spend 2+ hrs in the car and/or 3+ hrs on a plane.

I did catch Geo's smokin' fast 5 miler though. and

I ran today! Only a little over 3.5 miles, first run in a week. It actually felt pretty good, leg-wise, but my cardio definitely plummeted during my little lull. Oh well. Time to start building back up!

And we're home. Ahhh, home. Not unpacked, and the house is a disaster, but we're home. I have a list of things to do tomorrow that's as long as my arm. Lots of phone calls, need to find the form to file an extension for taxes, start working on the immunization stuff for school, etc. Fun stuff...
Geo, that is totally fast! I'm impressed!

Modmom, fingers crossed for your dh. The job hunting, it is a journey.

I meant to run yesterday but drank gin instead. So I'm going to drag my sorry self out and run 4 outside in the muggy dark.

OMG, I got out my schedule for soccer this summer... I've got both kids playing the same night, same time, two different parks in town. Plus ds has practice another night of the week...and all of this takes place during the time when I am now milking goats. If I move up milking time, this will mean getting to the barn by 5AM. Hm. And the coach I am assisting has not yet called me. wtf? I don't feel ready to have non-preschoolers...and yet here I am with kids who are getting their own schedules. Crumps.

Also, both kids need new passports...and we're embarking on the adventure of regular orthodontist visits. And dh will be gone for the month. And I feel like I need to keep going to work through the month of May just to help out with the finances...I'm freaking out a little and am not sure who to discuss this with so I can find good solutions.

mommajb, I get what you're feeling about putting the family through this...here's a big Dingo hug.

tjs, enjoy being home for a bit before jumping on the list. I've got mine here, too. I am not a list-maker, and I am not good with keeping the planner up-to-date, but I am feeling that all that has to change now.

Hi all,
Quick drive by...hoping for a run later. I'm going to the dentist today for the first time in several years (we have dental insurance! ) and am nervous. It seems like I am always reprimanded at the dentist's office by a hygienist who has to re-tutor me in the Way of The Floss.

Jo and MommaJB, I'm with you on the scheduling thing. I think I need one of those big 8 1/2 x 11 size ones and use different colors for every person, plus another color for my lesson planning...etc. A Master Schedule or something. I had been trying out using my Blackberry but I don't like to because I can't see the whole week or month at the same time. Plus I"m kind of a nerd...I love a nice paper calendar to play with. Kinda like school supplies. You could easily lose me for a month or so and about $300 later in Staples.

FM...yesterday 4.5 miles. Hoping for more today...Oh yeah, I"m the proud new owner of Brooks Adrenaline shoes! I my local Fleet Feet store, it's owned by two ladies and they really took their time with me. Plus one had her newborn (6 weeks) in her Moby Wrap while she worked! I gave her the info for the LLL meetings and hopefully she'll come.

Ladies, I am in tears and need to get a grip. I have no problem other than teenage boy, preteen girl, toddler, preschooler, and another one in the middle. Oh yeah, and a husband. Do you know what threw me over the edge? Toothpaste on my robe, somebody used it to wipe their face. I should be glad they are brushing. I did much beter when I embraced my role but I am having trouble valuing it myself. Or seeing the humor in my situation.

mommajb if ever anyone needed the dingo commune. Kids sometimes don't think. Husbands too... .

Nic ~ enjoy thos new shoes! Can I come to Staples too?! I'd easily get lost myself . Good luck at the dentist. I used to get the business about flossing too, but ever since I invested in a Sonicare, it's all been good.

Goodness Jo, I'm stressed just reading about your soccer scheduling dilemma! I personally have 20 minutes today to get DS from gymnastics on the southside of town, up to violin lessons on the northside, during rush hour. Yeah, right...

Penelope ~ don't think, just run. Gin? !

Gaye ~ welcome home! Don't stress. It will all get done.

This morning I made DS laugh so hard that mouthwash came out his nose . What a way to start the day! DH is a monster stress case. He's applied for 20+ jobs now, and not one interview even. We still have 5 1/2 months 'til retirement, but I can tell he's starting to worry. He's headed to Ohio (Wright Patterson AFB) tomorrow for a civilian contractor job fair. Please, send those job for him.

Headed out for a long walk with my friend on the rail trail this morning. The weather could not be more perfect !

OE ~ I'd get the bike fixed up. $70 is way less than you'd spend even on an entry level bicycle. I bought mine, USED, for $550 .

If I'm ever going to keep up with this thread, I can't take the weekend off the computer!

Thanks for all the info on the ice baths. I hate icing, but I always feel better after doing it, so I'll have to incorporate this in to my long run routine!

I tell my mom that she won't have her Vitamix after each visit. I desperately want one, but while I have a blender that works, I can't justify getting a new one.

Bras: Blech! I hate bra shopping. Pre babies I was a small B, after kiddos a DD!! Luckily they have shrunk a bit since I started running - D (hopefully it will continue). I envy all those AAs around here! I finally found a sports bra that holds the girls steady while running, but it leaves marks on my shoulders. I can't win! As far as padding is concerned, why in the world would any DD bra need padding? Seriously, what are the designers thinking??

I had an absolutely fabulous 12 mile run this weekend. I felt strong throughout and my recovery was easy. If I feel this good for the half in 2 weeks I think I may be way under my original goal pace (10 minute goal, but I went just over 9 minutes/mile on Saturday!!). I'm in taper mode now.
mamajb I'm sorry.

Nic- I have a desk calendar mounted to a wall in the kitchen. It's nice and big with lots of room to write, and it was only about $5, I think.

Our summers are crazy busy but there are times in the winter when we can go weeks without a commitment. I love winters, I really need the downtime.

I started to write down some of our summer commitments and then got overwhelmed, so I deleted it.

Doesn't look like a run today, maybe some strength training or yoga to keep me limber.

Me too! Katie comes by her computation issues honestly, at least.

So, tri class last night was good. Until I fell off my bike, at least. We did a 8+ mile bike ride, followed by a 1 mile run. We rode out a couple miles to a less trafficky road, where we could practice passing people, and had a little competition of sorts. That went well until the last small hill, when my seat started falling down (the bolt was a tad loose). So, I get to the meeting place, stopped, unclipped, and adjusted my seat back up. I clipped one side back in to see if I had it at the right height. And promptly fell over on the clipped side. I am definitely more embarrassed than hurt, but I landed on gravel, so have some road rash on my knee, and will have a spectacular bruise in a day or so. It was bleeding and ugly, and everyone was making a fuss (which made me even more self conscious). Other than that, it was a great class, great workout, and I loved getting out on my bike!

My plan for today was to go for a long swim. But, my knee is still oozing a bit, so, I thought I would go out for a long bike ride, instead, and swim tomorrow.

I got the compression sleeve from Nemesis yesterday! Thank you so much! I wore it all yesterday, and it seemed to make a big difference. I am going to wear it again today. I have high hopes that I'll be back in comfortable running form by next week. I'm still taking it easy this week on the running because I want to be all the way healed. I don't want this to be a nagging thing! Better a couple of weeks now. At least, that's what I keep telling myself!

Wendy - Look out Boston!!!

I'm glad they seem to help, Bec!

They really were a lifesaver for me.

Best. Line. Ever. I think I want this on a Dingo shirt.

Jo, I hear ya on the soccer scheduling thing. Last fall we had two at the same time on different fields, then we went to alternating days, but that meant that we had soccer every single night. Then the winter clinics were the same night but back to back, so it was a 3 hour process plus drive time. Right now, only E is playing in spring league, but Courtney has been asked to fill in with her old team, and has tryouts this weekend and could, in theory, start practicing anywhere, any time as soon as teams are formed.

As for the head coach not calling you, are you sure the league told them that they had a volunteer for assistant? I know when I've been coaching, I have had more than one season where parents tell me halfway through the season, after watching me flounder, that they had offered to help. If you just checked a box, coach might never know unless you tell them.

for new shoes. I'm so in love with mine I can't even put it into words. As for the calendar thing, I've had to go to my BB just because I can guarantee access from anywhere. I long for the days of a paper calendar for exactly the reasons you describe.

Big for you. You are valuable and loved.

It's raining, fairly hard. I'm going on a field trip where we are going to plant trees. Hello, mud! Hello, cold kids! Hello, 5th graders wielding shovels. I'm thinking I should have volunteered for Ellie's trip today instead- they are riding the bus around town to learn about public transportation.
