I suck at pranks, so no pranks here. Can't believe it's April already...

I made some quinoa waffles this morning (although I snuck in a little buckwheat and tapioca flours- we'll see how that goes over..) and they were actually pretty good!

Today is our big dentist appointment. I'm hoping DP can come home at lunch and go with us... I have no idea how else I'm going to keep DD entertained and still while they're cleaning my teeth. I didn't plan very well.

No- the gums just started this week. The doctor just sent a note with the hematocrit level written down, and "okay" next to it.

cs I'd look at copper for the anemia - it's common to have high copper levels but not be able to use it, so still show deficiency symptoms. Don't know what to do about that, though. And I wouldn't brush off b6 or b12 - since they're both stored, the deficiencies can take a long time to correct. Oh yeah, and look up ferritin/gut lining.


There's milk

dd's really skeptical of the idea of tandem nursing. And hates the sound of ds(!!!) crying.

I was worried about not being able to shut off the allergy part of my brain and focus on baby/bonding. Not an issue

I'm craving fruit like MAD. Are there any lists of nutrient dense fruits? Juice recipes? Other questions in the works when I have more time... First signs of intolerance? Oh, and he is such a classic baby compared to dd so far!

I think berries are nutrient dense and watermelon is a great way to increase your water intake.

We are spending a long weekend at my inlaws house on an island. Should be nice. We will be spending it with my sil and her husband and child. Fingers crossed that all goes well.

I just made marshmallows. It was very easy, tasty and sticky. I used maple syrup instead of lyle's syrup and it worked well.

We will be making Kathy's popovers this weekend. YUM!

Aww- poor DD. Doesn't sound like she's doing too terrible with the new baby though, huh?

So for B12 deficiency, for those of you that have done hair tests, there is at least some suggestion that cobalt status reflects B12 status (Dr. Yasko believes this, it is a key marker in her protocol - the labs that hair test & Andy Cutler says it's possible, and worth trying B12 supps if cobalt is low).

Anyhow, I looked back at our hair tests, and DH has red low cobalt - and a history that would make lots of sense for him to be B12 deficient. The rest of us are OK, which also makes sense. DS needs more B12 than just "not deficient", so for him, the goal is to get a pee/hair test with cobalt red high, according to Yasko (what she recommends for everyone with methylation mutations). FWIW. Thought it might be interesting for those of you that have a hair test to look at.

My friend who was coming down tomorrow just called me. She had her ultrasound today. She's having a sweet little girl who has heart, kidney defects, a growth on her head, and underdeveloped feet. They're thinking trisomy 18 or turner's syndrome. The really hard thing is that she and I share the same due date. And I haven't had an u/s, but I'm pretty sure my baby is healthy. This is so hard. Please send peaceful vibes to my friend! My heart aches for her!

And the mean thing is that her doc suspected things(because he had her all lined up for an immediate amnio and u/s specialist and didn't warn them about his concerns at all. She went in thinking it was a typical set up!

nursing's great so far - he's self latching better than dd. In fact, it only hurts when it's dd nursing... That was another question I had, though - anyone have easy access to what the tongue should look like while crying? So far, he's stuck it out and it's closer to spear-like than dd's, but it tends to go down towards his chin. I have seen it straight out today, though.

Dd's adjusting. Slowly. She's loving playing with dh, but doesn't want anything to do with ds. I just had to move the blanket he's Wrapped up in so it wouldn't touch her while I read her a book...

I have a 23 month old son who has newly diagnosed allergy issues. It will take me a while to get the hang of things and am grateful boards like this exsist. DH and I are thinking about trying for #2 soon, but I have my concerns. I will be 38 this July. I feel like it's now or never, but I'm so tired already with just 1!! DH and I both work full-time so it's tough, but I know millions of othert people do too and they manage to have more than 1 kid. Neither of us has family that lives near us, so we are pretty much on our own in terms of help/support.
Anyway nice to be here.

Welcome Marnica! What allergies does your DS have? I have a 22 month old, am 37, and also thinking about #2. I also work full-time (as does DH) so I understand your concerns! It is so hard, and finding time to deal with allergies on top of it isn't easy. I'm not on here as much as I would like (just not enough hours in the day) but have learned so much from all the wonderful mamas here.

So today I've had to lift dd2 when leaving somewhere (not supposed to lift things!) and man I can feel it! But what do you do when you have to leave and they won't cooperate?

I think I'm crazy...dh offered to watch the kids so I could go shopping but I said I'd rather take all the kids if it meant he could go and lift everything--so I push the cart and point and he acts as my gopher. Hopefully the kids will be little angels.

We're having sloppy joes for the first time ever in our almost decade of marriage. MMM. (No clue why this sounds SO GOOD to me, lol). I'm going to have to figure out some sort of sandwich for dd2 tho, since she can;t do tomatoes.

Had a long day out of the house, it was lovely. DS didn't try to take any of the crackers or cheese from the table in the kitchen, so that was great, though I did stay a lot closer than I have in the past year. But it was a really nice outing for all of us.

A friend, a few years back, had a baby with trisomy 18. But for her, she had to wait a month after the initial suspicious test results to do more testing and then more. If the doc _really_ wasn't sure, and needed this ultrasound before even wanting to bring up the possibility (not knowing what he/she was basing the hunch on), then just getting them in for this u/s and then having follow-up testing set up could be something to make it all easier. I think that month, when my friend knew things _could_ be a problem, but they had to wait for tests, was really, really hard. Hopefully it was done to avoid an unneeded scare (with all the false positives various testing methods give), and minimize the uncertainty.
