Talk to me about the name "Georgia"

We are planning to name our baby girl Georgia. I'd love some feedback on the name. What do you think of it? What "type" of name do you see it as being? Are you seeing many little Georgias around your neck of the woods?

Thanks!

Nope. No procreative sex took place in Georgia ;-)

Are from there?

I think its way better to have a tie to the place names you use for the kids.

Well.... thats only if they are naming the girl after the state and not the female version of George, which has been around for a lot longer than the state has.

Love it!!!!

I know one Georgia, and she's in her 50s.

I think it's a pretty and classic name.

I love it--a total classic (as the feminine George). I don't think you have to have any connection to the state of Georgia to use it.
I did hear some parents at the beach the other day calling to their daughter "Georgia", so I have heard it here (CT). There is also Georgina, which is less common.
They same some nice things about Georgia here:

I LOVE the name Georgia (but I love "ia" names-evidenced by my 3 girls Olivia, Claudia and Amelia. ). I think it wears well for all ages. My husband's first name is George, and if this wouldn't have been a boy that we could finally name George, I probably would have gone with Georgia.

I don't know any Georgia's IRL, the closest similar name I do know someone with is Georgette, and she's in her 50's.

The name makes me smile and makes me think of Peaches.

Thanks for putting this out there because Georgia is one of the names we are considering right now. It was great to read the replies.

It's a perfectly fine name which has transcended its location-based association. Although actually it's not location-based at all, being the female version of George.

I like it!

I love it! It's classic and pretty. Makes me think of a peach or a pretty summer day. I don't think it's overused yet, although it's the type of name that's becoming very popular (old fashioned, etc.)...so we'll probably be seeing more of it in the years to come. I don't think any of the Georgia state conotations are bad at all.

Georgia was one of the names I really wanted to name one of our daughters. I love it. I have only known a couple of Georgia's, and both were lovely little girls so for me I have a lot of positive thoughts about it.

I am not the biggest fan of Georgia.

We considered Georgia for our youngest DD. It was in our top 3 with Lucinda and Alice (we went with Alice). My dad's first name is George (though he goes by his middle name) and my grandfather was George so it's a family name for us.

I don't think it's all that popular, although I did recently meet a little 1 yo in our neighborhood named Georgia. She's the only child I've ever met with the name and it wouldn't deter me from using it.

I love the name Georgia. My sister named her daughter after our grandfather George, but she named her Jorgie.

I love the name (as the feminine version of George... otherwise I'm just not a huge fan of 'place' names)!! I think it's classy, classic and works well with a child as well as an adult
