I have always gagged sorta easily since I was a baby although it has gotten better. I think it would be difficult for me but I don't know if it would be impossible. I only have 4 fillings (2 on each side) and will be getting them out all at once. Sedation adds another $1000 on to the cost. I also do not really like the idea of having the IV and all of that. I dread needles more than anything else. I am NOT good with needles/shots/having blood drawn/etc. Just the thought of it makes me feel dizzy and weak. But if I don't get sedated don't I need a novacaine shot in the gums..?? That sounds worse to me. Plus I would love to just go to sleep and wake up and it's done. The whole thought of the amalgam removal is stressing me out.
I have tried other dentists to try and get a better price but he is the only one I think I feel comfortable with. One I talked to supposedly did not use oxygen according to his receptionist. He was supposed to be one of the best. This dentist I am going to use if I decide to get my amalgams removed I have consulted with and also he picks up the phone personally sometimes when I call and I have gotten my questions answered by him directly.
Here are my notes on his safety precautions:
IAOMT protocol - rubber dam, oxygen mask, glasses, head-covering, full drape, suctions underneath the rubber dam & on top of the dam - filtered air in the room
In my notes I had this written too.. but now I am not quite sure what it means.. haha
- How would I know if I needed sedation..? What are the other options..? Do you numb before using novacaine..?
Cleanup if I don't use sedation and I gag with the dam, numb area before
Anyway I guess the point of this long rambling post is what was the procedure like for you..? Thanks
