Hi there!
My lovely 2.5 DS LOVES to crash things. He'll get out all his trucks and crash them together. Totally normal, I know. But it can get out of control at times and lead to him/a friend/the dogs/me getting hurt, so I feel I have to try to model to him ways to do it safely/appropriately.
Here's the problem, it seems to be getting WORSE and my my gentle redirections, modeling and even removal of him from the situation don't seem to be getting the point across. Some examples and things I've done...
1. When crashing his trucks in a big pile at home, by throwing them together and sometimes reeling off into a dog or person, I will get him a box or a spot on the couch where they can safely crash. This works for about 1 minute.
2. When at someone else's house, or a public play area, he will start dumping things out and kicking them all over the place. Today, at our indoor playground, he pulled over two play kitchens that almost fell on a one year old. As these things have been happening lately(i.e. the WORSE part), I have told him that its dangerous and because he did it we have to leave immediately. And we do.
Ideas? I'm open to anything. He's really a great kid and I know he's experimenting, but its gotten kinda dangerous lately and, worse, so I really need to figure out how to soften it.
