I'm irritated.

Ok, all three of us take a special form of coq10 which has orphan drug status to treat mitochondrial issues. But..it has to have orphan drug marketing status (years more down the road) to make insurance even think about paying for it. Canadian health care covers it for their mito patients. It's not the same as the coq10 picked up at the corner drug store. It works better in the body, raises levels, and has clinical proof of that. So we pay out of pocket for the "good stuff" for three that's expensive but oh well.

The geneticist prescribed pharm. grade MCT oil (2 tbs. per day). I can't find anything over the counter that doesn't have nut or sesame cross contamination potential. My son is anaphylactic. The prescription costs $80 per bottle. And....insurance won't pay for it because I can also get it over the counter. Except over the counter might have nut oils (hence, in my mind not pure MCT which you need for a metabolic condition).

I'm irritated. Vent over.

Our insurance pays for our cytoQ. For Linden it is billed as a nutritional supplement just like the polycose. That works around the OTC drug stuff. I don't know if it makes a difference what state you're in or if it's only covered through a tube. But we do get ours covered.
