My baby just threw up a ton

ok... my MIL says it's a virus, and she was around a bunch of other babies on sunday morning, so it seems likely. Just want to get some other opinions though... could it be that I gave her a peanut butter cookie today? PB for the first time, she's 14 months, and she's had almond butter before. but it's been several hours since the cookie.
Or, could it be teething? MIL said she's never heard of teething causing vomiting before.

What do you guys do when your los have virus? Do you give pedialite? or is there something natural you can give instead?

thanks for any advice

It could be a virus - or the cookie - or teething (sometimes swallowing all the extra saliva produced during teething can cause a baby to vomit...)

Sorry, it's hard to know. If she continues to vomit then I would say virus.

If she is breastfeeding then continue to offer the breast as normal, or more often if she is vomiting a lot and can't keep anything else down.

If she is not getting breastmilk and is throwing up a lot then push the fluids. Water and juice should be enough but if she is getting really dehydrated then you could add a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, a pinch of salt and a bit of sugar/maple syrup/honey to water or juice to replace electrolytes.

ok... interesting. My MIL was certain it wasn't the cookie or teething. She threw up little, and then a TON all at once, then another tiny bit. She is feeling much better now. Still a little crabby, but walking around and chattering. And her fever is way down. We'll stick to this so calld "BRAT" diet. Although she is far from a brat

Drinking really well... watered down apple juice with a little ginger ale. If the fever comes back I'll put some lemon balm in there.

Any other suggestions of what to give or not give her would be great.... just in case....

Also, elderberry is really good for when they have virus right? Just not a lot?
Im gonna look that up now

I like elderberry but my favorite is ginger and rose hips or pine needles and rose hips. So healing.

I bet it was the cookie since peanut butter is a hard to digest nut/legume. Sickness from a food may need some extra probiotics and some warm broth.
