Expsed to RSV... WWYD??

Hi there, my DS1 is just over 3yrs old and DS2 is 7 nearly 8 months old. We were at playgroup yesterday and one of the little girls who comes regularly had the sniffles that were presumed/diagnosed/whatever as 'allergies'. Apparently, incorrectly . I just got a call this morning/afternoon to call-back the leader of the playgroup, and I Just got around to it... turns out she has/had RSV (turned blue last night and was rushed to the ER!!!).

Personally, *I'm* not too terribly worried. DS2 is more-or-less EBF and DS1 is 3 and still eats fairly decent. The one and only thing that worries me is that its easter weekend and we have plans to go down to columbus to see DH's family on saturday, and up to canton to see my family tomorrow (mostly elderly/adults, I don't *THINK* there will be any other kids/babies there, but not 100% - one cousin I know does have a baby/toddler who I think is ~1yr now...). DH's sister has a 5 month old baby, and his grandpa has heart problems, and I worry that if we are infected we could pass it on to them and have *THEM* have problems... so, WWYD??

What should I watch for? I just googled RSV and apparently the incubation period is anywhere from 2-8 days, which is quite a range... Both my boys seem fine as of now, but its only been 34 or so odd hours since we were exposed...

According to Drs once you are over the age of 3y you rarely get RSV, I am not sure however it doesn't manifest itself into some other respiratory aliment yk?

If it were me and I was concerned I would maybe tell the families of the young children that your kids were exposed and they can keep a distance, wash hands frequently ect.

But in reality we are potentially exposed to things like this whenever we venture out and never really think too much about it.

Have fun visiting your family. Maybe have your children drink a little 100% OJ. Yummy

My DS was really (as in, exchanging slobber-drenched toys) exposed to RSV when he was six months and honestly, I didn't worry a whole lot about it. He's breastfed and overall quite healthy. I just kept on nursing and watched for any symptoms. He was fine. I did let friends/family know he'd been exposed, but no one was really concerned.

i would stay away from others. it is nasty and contagious.

my family is just getting over rsv. my 8mo came down with it after being exposed at a party. my 12yo and husband were sick with it soon after. my 12yo wasn't too sick, but my husband had it bad, and my 8mo ended up with bronchiolitis, and 2 er visits (for breathing treatments.)

it was a horrible experience, very scary. i hope your lo didn't contract it.

Personally, I'd call the family member who you think might be concerned and see how they feel about it. That's what I prefer when people are sick. I'd rather them tell me the situation and let me decide if we still want to get together or post-pone.
