BBT thermometer recommendations?

My BBT thermometer now is just the CVS brand. It was pretty cheap but I feel like it takes FOREVER to give a reading. Literally 3+ minutes. Doesn't sound like that much time but when I'm waiting to go back to sleep or DS is crying and I need to go to him, it feels like ages.

Can anyone recommend a thermometer that will give me a reading more quickly?

Thanks, ladies!

My walgreens thermometer gives readings really fast, but I doubt its accuracy. It shows a basic temp shift, but it seems to get "stuck" on certain readings. Like, pre-O, most temps will be either 97.2 or 97.18 or 97.6--what happened to 97.43 or something?

walgreens therms you have to leave in a full 3 minutes after the beep to get an accurate reading. it will keep moving for that long!

however, it has temp recall so you can still get the temp if you fall back asleep.

I wouldn't trust anything that gives one much quicker.

my experiance is that even the fast one need to be kept in longer for a acurate reading. most folks just dont need as clear of numbers as we do, so they dont care. but i have learned to leave mine in for a few minutes and that compleately smoothed out me chart.

i use a BD rapid flex and love it. of of the selling points for me is that is is really well sealled and has little to no groves or opening to get gunk or water in.

i also temp vaginally so that might mean more, but i would think it would be a benifit for anyone.
i also sugest to anyone to temp vaginally, it is so much easier imho. i actually often fal back asleep after placing it and wait up either to my snooze alarm or way later and get the temp of the memory funtion

Hmm. Ok, thanks ladies. I guess it's just when DS is crying that I struggle. Maybe I just need to go to him and temp later, even if it's not the best temp.

well i suggest figuring out something else if at all possible, getting up and temping anytime after that will most likely not give you any thing that is usable. i know that must be really hard when you have a little one around.
better to throw out a handful of days thru-out the cycle that you had to mess up and only use the good ones. or wake your self up a tad earlier to get a undisturbed reading.

either way if you are struggling to temp make sure to track and chart your other signs as best you can so that they can be used to supplement a possible iffy temp shift. your CM and CP can be great tools if you learn how to read them.

good luck

Thanks, that makes sense. I'm doing CM and CP also and OPKs so hopefully if I have to throw out some temps it'll still be clear.

I have used the standard BD Digital Basal Thermometer since 2005. (Not the same one, I have had to replace a couple of times). It gives readings to the tenth of a degree, not the hundredth, but it is pretty fast - like less than 30 seconds? I have never had a problem getting very clear temperatures and usable charts. We CTA for 2 years, TTC one cycle and succeeded, then CTA again PP until now. No issues, no failures. I temp orally, but I do usually warm up the thermometer by putting it on the inside of my cheek in the morning, for a few seconds before I take the reading.

I've been happy with my Target Basal thermometer. It's pretty fast, definitely less than 3 minutes, and I've checked it with a non-mercury glass thermometer that has "clinical accuracy." I just got a new one, because the batteries were going and I couldn't find replacements, and it was on clearance for 5.55--the Target Up and Up brand.

I love my CVS therm, my readings are much more consistent than with my old BD one.
I don't always have to keep it in for the full 3 minutes, sometimes it beeps much sooner. Just make sure you're not moving it around in your mouth...
