goat milk?

My son is 18 months old and still nursing a few times a day usually..sometimes more. I do not plan on ever giving him cows milk, but does he need to be getting the fat somewhere? Should I give him goats milk? Does this give him the accurate amount of fat or calcium or magnesium...whatever it is that "they" say our little ones need? any advice?

I don't know if it gives them everything they "need" but I do know that it is a lot easier on their bellies. Says my dd and my friends grandson (both 14 mos)

Also I think they are less likely to have reactions.

I had to stop pumping BM when my son was 1-year (I pumped exclusively) and gave him cows milk, he had horrible bowel issues! we swapped to goats milk and he has had no trouble. If you 'Google' it I believe goats milk is higher in fat and some other things but a lot lower in B vits, that doesnt bother me though as DS has a balenced diet and I know he gets B vitamins else where. I also read somewhere that its much more similar to human milk than cow milk - something to do with the protein molecules..

If he's still nursing a few times a day, then he IS getting milk! He doesn't *need* any other milk in his diet, period. Sure, you can include it if you want to, but it's not necessary.

Yes to that!

But since he is nursing, I would make sure that YOU mama are getting enough fats since it will go through the breastmilk. You don't have to drink goats milk, but it is a great milk.

thanks everyone!...That definately helps. I eat a pretty balanced diet, but I am curious what *enough* fats would look like for me as I am still nursing my 18 month old. what types of food would be the best andhow much should I get a day?

I put my diet into fitday.com for a couple of weeks to track my nutrients, calorie count, etc.

Good fats: meat drippings, avocado, coconut milk/oil, pine nuts, etc.

My DD loves goats milk. Its not always available her in town so I alternate with organic cows milk when its not available.
