Mama Cloth Postpartum

Ok, I JUST cannot decide where to go to find the best post partum mama cloth. I'm gathering things together (first homebirth...3rd baby) and I'd love to have some comfy stuff that I can use. Are there some that I can soak and freeze to make some nice flannel ice packs or something? I can't use disposable pads as the chemical reaction pretty much makes me faint. Where should I go? What should I look for? I'm overwhelmed and confused and running out of time! Help help!

I'm reading through old posts for ideas. What if I get a few of some sort of long ice pack things (like the kinds filled with that blue stuff), freeze those, and put them inside of some preemie or newborn prefolds? Would that work? Maybe I could use the prefolds as pads for a few days, then switch to mama cloth? Still need to find where to buy, though. I have some regular Rhythm and Blues I think they were, but cannot remember. It's been so long since I ordered mama cloth!

I got some from Homestead Emporium and Treehugger. They were AMAZING postpartum. I did wet and freeze them, and that was lovely. And the bamboo velour doesn't even compare to sposies. I wasn't sure it would be worth it, but it sooooo was!!

I was just posting in the "dressing up for birth" thread about what I wore before/during/after the birth.. and was thinking about the moment I stepped out of the tub, wrapped up in a towel, and instead of having a chux pad or sposie pad tucked on my tender areas, I got a prefold. SO SOFT!! It was amazing!

I used mama cloth exclusively last time (and will again), and used prefolds for the first few days. My favorite set up was taking an infant prefold and wrapping it around a soft, frozen ice pack. I got my icepacks from http://www.inhishands.com/ - the 5x10" hot and cold compress. The cold would work through the prefold, which was still absorbent (because it wasn't wet), and the PF was soft (because it wasn't frozen). A pair of the mesh panties from In his Hands held it all up, too. AND I could sleep all night with that set up and be fine in the morning!

Preemie prefolds are less bulky by a LOT and therefore better when you're ready to be sitting up more. I had both types and was very glad. I also had/have a variety of mama cloth options. Homestead Emporium is one I would definitely highly recommend. More recently I have had pads/liners from Fussybutt which I *love*. I tried a few of various types, but those are two I know I'll go to again. (Fussybutt's nursing pads are fantabulous, too!)

For ice packs you can make condom ice packs, think water ballon . There's a recipe in the resouce thread I believe. You can do a couple tablespoons of witch hazel then fill with water. I'd feel safer with that closer my skin than those blue gel things.

I used my regular cloth pads, sometimes borrowing my baby's tiny cloth diapers, and I also used a lot of the same washcloths I'd bought for during the labor/birth.

I usually wear a diva cup, so I don't need a bunch of heavy duty mama cloth, so I just used infant prefolds for the first few days. After that I switched to my nighttime mama cloth and also used some xs hemp prefolds. It was great. I really didn't buy anything *extra* and I was very comfortable.
