getting started with FAM/NFP?

For you ladies who use NFP, how did you get started? Did you take a class or just read a book, or what? If you took a class was it through the Catholic Church? DH an I would like to start using this method. We would prefer to take a secular class, but I'm not sure if there are any in the area (we live in Chicago). If you took a class through the Catholic Church was there a lot of theology involved? I don't have a problem with Catholicism, but my reasons for wanting to use this method aren't entirely religious. TIA!

I used the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Easy to understand, easy to learn.

We took a class through the Couple to Couple League, there was some theology involved but it wasn't awful (DH and I are not Catholic). I also borrowed and read "Taking Charge of your Fertility".

ETA: We took the class because DH felt better about having someone "teach" the class that we could ask questions, etc.. Rather than me just spouting off information to him.

LOL! WAAAAY back when, I learned it online from some random website. No joke, I charted temps in Excel, and fortunately for most of that time I was in graduate school several states away from my DH.

Then I stumbled onto a message board which referenced TCOYF and read that. Finally I was able to make my charting a lot more ME-specific, modifying the rules to fit my body and my patterns, which, with well over a year's worth of charts, gave me lots of work with. That was also perfect timing because that was shortly before we got married and really put the method to the test.

10 years later, charting is still our family planning method, and we have never ever had an "oops".

Thanks! I am going to get TCOYF. I think we will check out a class too. I don't want to be the only "the gate keeper" to our fertility. I feel like a class will help dh understand what's going on!
