I was due on the 10th of March and for the past 5 years or so had decided that I really wanted to up and uc at home. I started backup/just in case prenatal care at 22 weeks for an ultra sound and in case I needed to transfer. All looked great for most of the pregnancy until the last month where my blood pressure kept spiking. I had been having mild bh contractions off and on for a week or so and started to loose my mucus plug as the 10th approached and became a memory. On the day of the 13th I did all I could think of to instigate labor & after a full day, took my blood pressure at the market & it was really high. I couldn't recall the last time I felt the little one kick so I decided I better go in for an nst, although I was really hesitant to because I knew I would be setting myself up for intervention after intervention.....
I will be adding my detailed birth story here in the next day or so, it has taken me awhile to write it down and to put all my emotions and feelings into it, mostly due to lots of family visiting and also trying to take in the whole birth and process just how it went (really great considering).
Against my wishes I was given pitocin for about an hour after trying prepadil and a foley catheter overnight and most of the morning on the 14th. It was removed once it did the job of popping open a scar on my cervix & I quickly was at a stretchy 7-8. 3 hours after the pitocin was started Brighton Drake took his first breath and I have been in awe, shock and deep love ever since.
A few photos from his first day & one I took yesterday at 2 weeks 3 days.
Still in birthing room with daddy - less than an hour old
15 hours old
Hands clasped - 15 hours
Phone photo at 2 weeks 3 days

I'm glad it turned out well.
