Zion had ear infections! I was at such a loss, because my son was never ill. She was miserable- it was a happy day when she woke up laughing and smiling again!

She asked if he smiles at anyone, and right then he decides to reach his arms out to her and start laughing.

While he was laying on his back on the exam table, she asked if he had good head control when he was on his tummy, and he chose that moment to roll over onto his tummy, and screech/laugh some more. (This is totally new, btw, he just started rolling back-to-tummy last week )
This is sweet.

My girl is a little over 14 lbs and 25.5 inches long. She loves to stand (with me holding her up of course) and is working on sitting muscles. No rolling at all yet, except to the side some. She is a well-spring of joy; she laughs and smiles all day. It is very pleasant! Zi will be 5 months next week.

Zion and Gabe are right about the same weight and height wise! He does roll, and can tri-pod sit (but not for long before he topples)

He naps well pretty much anywhere, but night time spends half the night in the co-sleeper and the other half in bed with us. He has not had more than a cold so far, thankfully.

we have not yet started solids really, but do give him tastes of things when we can. He likes peas, asparagus (sucks on a spear), potato, chipotle sauce, jam, fro yo and ice cream . . . didn't care for curry, or the rasberry-kiwi fro yo. (this seems like an awful lot of things, but mostly I just put a bit on my finger and he sucks it off)

he is super interested in our food, so I don't think I'll have one of those babes who is not really eating food until 9 months or later. I had him in my lap last night while eating spaghetti and he couldn't keep his hands out of the plate! what a mess! (but it was funny!)

Our guy does this too, and sometimes if we're holding food, he'll sort of root for it. It's pretty hilarious. I never understood what the books meant when they said that babies will start showing an interest in food when they're ready to eat - but I get it now!

Xavi isnt showing any interest in food yet, at all! Even though we let him smell our food when we eat it, just so we can see his reaction. He does reach for my water glass though, but I think mostly because it is a neon green color!

I've been reading a little on baby led weaning, anyone else planning on that? Or what other things are you planning to do in the way of solids? I'm at a loss as to what is best.

We went to the Zoo for the first time yesterday, it was so fun. DS 'noticed' the meercats and a few birds, he got so excited about it, hillarious! He puts his hands out in front of them and flexes his whole body and shakes, while making a O with his mouth and screeching. Babies are so funny!!! I was wondering if he would, since he loves our dog so much. I hope he starts 'noticing' more animals as he gets bigger, I bought us a year pass to the Zoo, so we'll be going a lot.

Lauren - I love the quote you posted, I put it on my computer to remind myself, b/c my days have been really long lately, my DS is like your LO where lately he rarely sleeps anywhere but in my arms. But the quote is right, this too shall pass and quicker than we realize.

Someone mentioned their LO wasn't rolling over yet and neither is mine - My Mom said that they should roll over at 3 months?!? But I don't think that's right, anyone else in the same boat?

I've started thinking about introducing some solids, DS seems slightly interested - he looks at our food and reaches for my cup but I also think it's b/c the cup is red and he seems to really like that color. They say you're supposed to start with rice cereal mixed with breastmilk, does anyone know what's behind that?

I really want to take DS to the Zoo but I don't think he's that interested in animals just yet - he's starting to be but who knows maybe a strange looking animal would spark his interest but then again maybe they're all strange looking to him right now? Lol.

So I just started getting the babywearing thing down - I'll start much earlier with the next one - so I decided to wear DS to the library and grocery store the other day and it was so funny. I felt like I had 2 heads the way everyone was looking at me, clearly not many people in my area have seen babies being worn. I mean of course people look at you anyways when you have a baby but this was something different. Anyone else have any funny stories? Does it slightly annoy anyone else that people stare the way they do?

Well gotta run, TTFN!

If you give rice cereal, it must be mixed with something; and BM is more nutritious than water, and baby is probably not ready for regular milk yet. Though you can really mix it with anything, apple juice, or applesauce, mashed bananas, any pureed food with enough liquid.

We plan on (who am I kidding, I think we probably already have!) started BLW - basically just letting him eating eat what might be appropriate off of our plates - mostly fruits and veggies. I'll let him start self feed once he starts the pincer grasp; right now he still just does the raking motion.

I was wearing DS in the moby when he was very small - maybe 2 months old? and I had more than one person ask if I had a baby in there! LOL I was like nah, just a giant blue tumor!

we use the Ergo more now though, I need to lose a bit more weight to settle it around my hips more comfortably. I have seen less people baby wear than NIP, and those are few and far between also. Alot of women nurse in their cars here, which I just don't find very comfortable (physically) and I feel like I am rushing.

Ds isnt interested in food, but MAN does he have the pincer grasp down. Especially in the morning while I'm still asleep, OUCH. He loves trying to pinch my wedding ring too for some reason, it facinates him.

BW is geting better for us, DS is liking his RS finally. And yeah, I get a ton of looks in it, and some bizzare comments. Like when DS is comfy and asleep, and someone says: Is he comfortable in that thing?? Huh??

I rarely see anyone BW here, and have only seen one other mama NIP. And at the Zoo yesterday, I did look for it. I was really hoping to see someone else NIP, I fed DS walking around the Zoo yesterday 3 times. Didnt see even one though. But saw many many mamas with bottles. DH pointed out that some of them could have been BM bottles, but it still made me sad not to see any nursing mamas out of the hundreds of mama/baby pairs out yesterday.

I attempted (key word there) to nurse in the RS yesterday too. Boy did that not work out well!! In hindsight it was something I should have tried at home first, I accidentally flashed a couple of people. Usually I just hold DS in my arms, cross my body horizontally. He had NO idea at first what we were doing, he has never nursed in a sitting up position before, then he kind of figured it out, but kept popping off and pushing on my breast, making a huge mess, so I gave up. I dont embarass easily, but I still would be moritfied if DS and I sprayed a stranger with milk

We did that with DS1 and what a great trick! It tastes like something they just love, so what a great way to introduce solids! I'd pump an ounce or two and mix it in and he couldn't get it in him fast enough. We have a bunch of funny baby pics of him gobbling it down, grabbing at the bowl with a frenzied look on his face, LOL!

So both boys are back to healthy again, thank goodness. The older one has gone back to daycare part time and the baby comes to work with me. I picked the 3 yr old up from daycare on Friday and our bill was there. I open it, expecting it to be lower as a result of all the missed days. Nope. DH asked her about it and the owner said she still had DS pencilled in and therefore charged us. I am so mad! She phoned us to come and get him because he was throwing up! She KNEW he was sick and wouldn't be back for at least a week!! We have a partial gov't subsidy, (in spite of being self-employed) and I think she figures the subsidy AND the self-employment mean she can milk us for whatever she can. I'm beyond annoyed, but he was on a waitlist for a year to get into this stupid place!

When I drop him off there tomorrow, I'm going to tell her how happy we are to hear that the next time he's throwing up and has explosive diarrhea, she'll be expecting him. :P

Don't you love daycare? I am very glad, and feel fortunate, that we don't need to use it at all - granted, it is thus because DH got laid off, and since has done just freelance work, but still.

glad your boys are well again!

DS did pinch my arm the other day, but I don't think it was on purpose. Right now the thing he enjoys and frustrates him the most - besides trying to crawl - is a toy on the excersaucer - one of those slide the bead things. he *can* slide it up and over, but not every time, and this just frustrates him to pieces! it is funny to watch.

our guy is 5 months old today! I can't believe it. It seems like there are so many milestones around the 6 month mark, he will be a little man in no time!

I always nurse with a cover, sitting down, when in public, though DS is getting impatient with the cover, I may have to give it up. (he tries to pull it off! LOL) I haven't figured out walking and nursing at the same time. I see women nurse in public, but it is rare.
I'll admit walking while nursing is getting harder as DS gets heavier! But its still doable for a while. I can only manage to do it really well on the left breast for some reason though, so I always feed him on the right before we leave the house! I just cradle his head in the crook of my left arm, hold his body horizontally across my body, and support his legs with my right arm. I used to hold both his legs, but now as he is bigger and squirmy, I find its easiest to slip my forearm in between his legs, and hold under his hip, so he can freely kick his legs as he nurses.

That thing with the bead sounds so cute!!

And I cant believe your daycare did that Jess!!! I would be so mad.
I'm going to have to dig out our exersaucer...he'd probably love it.

So, dropping DS1 off this morning at daycare was such a joke. She looked me straight in the eye and lied to me. I get that she's running a business, but now I think all she sees is dollar signs when she looks at my son. Oh well.
is she your only or best option for childcare? If we had to, I think I'd prefer an in-home daycare. Less kids per adult and I like that there are different ages together.

Jess, that's crazy about your son's daycare. Please tell me you did tell the lady that she can expect him the next time he has diarrhea! Seriously, who does that? I guess you're right - people who only see dollar signs, how ridiculous!

So... DS rolled over the other day for the first time, and from back to front, which I would think is more difficult. Someone said that they should be doing that by 3 months, is that right?? I know that I haven't been very good about tummy time but almost a 3 month difference would be a little much. I can't believe DS is going to be 6 months in a few weeks! Someone said that is such a big time and they're right SO much seems to happen around that time! I think I'm going to go get some rice cereal this week and try it out on DS to see what happens.

I also have trouble nursing DS in public, he just wants to look at everything and so he flails around with his arms pretty much the whole time - I've really been wanting a RS to see if that would help but we're investing in an ergo first and DS might be too big for the RS but the time we save up for it, he's already 18 pounds.

So, today is my birthday, big 28 I'm not sure what DH has planned tonight but yesterday we went to the movies for the first time with DS and it went alright, he fell asleep for part of it but cried when he woke up and DH took him out in the hall. I think we've passed the stage where he would have slept through the whole thing - looks like kid-friendly or daytime movies for us from here on out. Well hope everyone is having a lovely Wednesday, ttyl!

Well have a happy birthday Jewels!

And about rolling over, this is what it says in the milestone chart from our Ped Nurse:

Some babies can roll from their tummies onto their backs as early as two to three months of age, but most babies roll over for the first time between three and five months, and from their backs onto their tummies between five and seven months.

So I would say no worries! Our nurse was pretty suprised when DS rolled over for her.

Wow, not too much going on over here. I guess everyone's keeping busy with their LO's!! I know we've been lately. In fact, I found a meetup of AP Momma's in my area and met up with some last week - I can't tell you how awesome it was to meet other Mom's in person that follow AP - SO many people think I'm nuts for doing it and it was just a breath of fresh air to wear DS and have some compliment his Moby (even knowing what wrap it was, lol). So I'm excited.

That and I posted last week the DS had rolled from back to front, well last Thursday he rolled from front to back and has been a rolley polley ever since. I do feel bad however, I hadn't been real good about giving him tummy-time and I think that might have affected him - seeing as he's picked it up so quickly, he was probably able to do it for a while Since then my efforts in helping him sit up have doubled, we've had a lot more mat time and he's doing pretty good, he mainly has trouble when trying to put his foot in his mouth and then he topples to that side but otherwise he's pretty stable. Well I should run DS is sleeping in his Moby now and I'm going to see if I can't put him down. TTYL!

Yes, pretty quiet around here.

Jewels, I'm glad your LO is a rolly polly now - must be a great feeling. Mine is still not rolling in either direction. I too will admit that it has to do with lack of tummy time, but he just really doesn't care for it. I'll see how I continue working on that. Since I work full time, I'll ask mom to give him more tummy time as well.

Last week was chaotic and long for us. My uncle passed away the week before and my mom, who babysits, had to go overseas. That left us strapped for daycare. In the end it worked out because my good friend and his wife were able to watch him 4 days and my sister was able to do it one day for us. I'm glad the week is over and mom is back as of Saturday. She's really sad. She's the oldest of her siblings and while we knew my uncle's end would come, we never thought it would be within six months of getting diagnosed with a brain tumor. Just a little over 2 weeks ago he was walking around and joking with friends and family. We still can't believe it.

I cannot believe the LO's will be turning 6 months in May. MIne will be 6 months next week and we have a WBV. I have to decide it we'll be starting on any vax or not. I'm still on the fence about it. We'll see......

Hope everyone has a nice week.
I think they forgot to schedule our 6 month visit. They know we are not vaxing (well, they know we haven't done so far, but we "let" them talk to us about it - it helps keep the peace with a ped we otherwise really like) Since we aren't, the WBV are quite quick - weight and measure, basic exam, any questions? and voila! we are done

My Gran passed away this past February due to cancer - it is a rough road. She was suffering a long time, looking back, I am grateful she got to meet her great-grandson but also wish that she could have been at rest sooner. I am sure having the care of her grandson keeps your mom's spirits up!

DS didn't like tummy time until he started rolling over. now he rolls to his belly every chance he gets! I think he is going through a growth spurt, or his tooth that I've been seeing for months is about to erupt . . . or both - he has been nursing a lot more, and more often (during the day, thankfully nights have stayed about the same) and more fussy in general, which is not his MO.

We are not officially 6 months until nearly the end of May . . . .but he mostly wears 6 month clothes (I admit to being puzzled by the clothing sizes - he wears a lot of 3-6 months, doesn't wear 3 month stuff any more, does wear 6 month stuff, and can wear 6-9 month things on occasion. I have even put him in a 9 month shirt) so he is somewhere in there!

I think we will do swimming for the first time on Memorial Day! I am so excited (not about getting myself a swimsuit, but that is another story!)

hope everyone enjoys their last week of April -

MommyMad- I wouldn't worry so much about the rolling, Katrina is right they really get better once they've rolled once, my DS didn't like his tummy-time at all now he's starting to like it.

I can't believe out LO's will be 6 months either, mine will be next week as well, unbelievable! We keep planning to start solids, well rice cereal but DH hasn't been around much and I don't want him to miss the first time so we've been holding off. We're also looking into to IPT and they say to get them started b4 6 months and I'm really trying to get my reading done so I can start this week. Hopefully I'll get around to it. DS is changing his schedule again though and instead of 10-10 he now wants to go to bed around 8 so it's making his nap schedule strange again. Well I should run, DS is in my lap and tired of it.

I will be away this weekend starting Friday but when I get back I will start the new thread for May, I'm thinking it'll be Novembabes '09 May Flowers. And I tried last time to put an icon in the subject line but I guess you can't do that, oh well.

Have a great day ladies!
