My 6-month-old's skillz: He can hold his head up, and.... that's about it. lol

DD was on the late end of normal w/ all her milestones (both physical and mental) but she's definitely caught up now that she's 3. But it seems like DS is starting off to be even later than she was. I remember that she finally rolled both directions when she was 5 months old. DS is almost 6 months and is doing.... nothing. He can hold his head (and chest, when on tummy time) up, and that's about it. Sitting? Forget it. He has no balance or willingness to try to sit. Sometimes he can stand, if I help him balance, but it's kind of like a reflex where he's pushing his feet out and not standing on "purpose" you know?

He does try to bring things to his mouth (like we have this big sensory caterpillar and if he's on his back and I drape it across his chest, he will "hug" it to him and try to eat the feet). He smiles for a good portion of the day. He eats well. He sleeps well. He's a very slow weight-gainer. When on his tummy, he just does the "airplane" thing where he balances just on his belly, w/ his head, chest, arms and legs up in the air.

I read a few of the threads in the archives about late rollers, but haven't really found a baby like DS yet, b/c most of those other babies could sit. So I'm not really worried, but just wanted to see if DS was all alone or not.

Hmmm... I'm definitely one to give them the benefit of time. However, since you say he's a slow weight-gainer, I'd be interested in what a ped had to say. How about talking/babbling? Maybe he's focused on that right now.

hugs andrea! if you are concerned, how about contacting your ped to ease your mind? millie just rolled over a few days before 6 mos and it seems she really took off after that. she's in early intervention, but we are down to 1 visit/mo and you can't tell she even had the torticollis! i think some babies just do things all at once. she doesn't have any teeth, so benjamin is up on that!

DD could sit at 6 months but didn't roll both ways until 9 months? maybe 10? She is 4 tomorrow and fine now!

My DS didn't sit up until 7mo and didn't roll both ways until at least 8mo. He then went on to crawl at 10mo and walk at 12mo. He was also a late talker (said mama at 2yo), so he didn't really babble much either. He's now a perfectly normal 6yo and on the advanced side with most of his schooling.

Motor skills seem to be largly genetic, your LO is probably perfectly fine.

Yep, he's fine! It can be hard to be on the late end of things with all the "at age X your baby'll be doing Y" lists giving the average age.

My almost 6 month old can roll both ways and sit with support and brings everything to his mouth. I wouldn't worry about rolling or sitting just yet but I think he should be putting toys in his mouth and reaching for toys and should be able to lift his head high up and get up on his forearms when on his belly I think??? Make sure he gets lots of floor time to practice rolling and reaching for toys etc which I am sure you know already.

Ashton seems to be having some difficulties related to the torticollis as well. It's like he won't put any weight on his arms and he gets really squeemish if you rub his shoulders. The ped only seemed concerned with making sure his head wasn't flat. Sigh. The chiro we are seeing now seems to very attentive to everything, but I am still pretty nervous. He was rolling over a TON at only two weeks! Then he stopped cold and now he just rolls to his side.

Like Harmony said, it's like he has no interest in sitting at all. So I guess I'll continue with what we are doing, but it makes me pretty nervous too. Especially when people keep asking why he's not doing this or that all the time.

and my dd is the opposite! she can roll all she wants, has no desire whatsoever to sit.. when placed in sit position, all she wants to do is lunge forward and scream because she cannot crawl. likewise no interest in standing.

milestones are just to gage- i'm not worried, doubt you should be either.. they're all different.
