Quilting Question

I need to make 2 quilts by the middle of April. My plans are for a rail fence quilt and a log cabin - the rail fence I made once but as a baby quilt and I'm making this one as a lap quilt. The log cabin I've never made before and I'm making it lap size. Any hints? I'm going to be tying not quilting them but I still need to assemble them. Any thoughts or hints that will help me accomplish this? I have no idea how I'm going to finish them on time.

do you use a rotary cutter? I was amazed at how much more quickly my projects went together when I finally bought basic rotary cutting supplies.

do you strip piece? It should work with the rail fence, but I'm not so sure about the log cabin. Strip piecing is another way to knock a quilt top out in a hurry.

Yeah, I already have the supplies and have cut everything. I'm going to strip piece as much as I can. I told DH that he's going to have the kids most of the weekend. One of the quilts is for his great-aunt's 50th wedding anniversary and the other is for a friends birthday. I'm making them as a way to save money since we are more than broke.

if you don't have a set pattern in mind for the log cabin requiring you to do something like put the same color blue on the last round or such, the easiest way i found was simply to have a bag of ten light fabrics and a bag of ten dark fabrics and just pull out a strip and sew it

two lights

two darks

no editing : )

i absolutely love the log cabin design as its soooo versatile in how you set the squares; you can end up with a quilt that is simple or complex all by how you turn the squares

So you sew and then cut so it's the right length?
