Pregnant after a tubal ligation????

Thread Starter
Its been awhile since I was last on here....my last child was born in Oct. 07. I had a tubal ligation done at that time...we were done.

Thing is...I am almost certain I miscarried last month. Period was a week early and I felt like I should test, mainly because the week before I had been so tired I could barely function, which is not like me. 2nd day of bleeding and I got a faint bfp. And hpt's after that day were bfn. I am very very regular...every 28 days. Only time I have missed is when I was pregnant.

And now...for the last two weeks, I have been tired...in the last week my boobs are sore....I have been cramping on and off....I have had some slight nausea after I eat or drink coffee...I threw up yesterday...lower back ache last three days...nasty crabbiness...just snapping at the littlest thing and I guess my main thing...I just feel pregnant. I knew I was pregnant with both my boys..and a couple of miscarriages before that. I got pregnant with my first son 2 weeks after a miscarriage. My period is not due until 04/06...five more days. Can't test till then. Waiting is driving me bonkers.

I guess my question is...is there anyone on here that has gotten pregnant after a tubal? Thanks...I really appreciate any comments or help.

It certainly can and does happen. The failure rate seems to be the highest among the rings/clips and TL's that are done at the time of a c-section.

I had a TL at the c-section birth of our 4th, as I couldn't endure more c-sections. (I thought I had to ) MANY times I felt like I was pregnant, because I had post tubal ligation syndrome (PTLS) so badly...it nearly ruined me physically, and my OB encouraged me to have a hysterectomy. I had a tubal reversal and I'm pregnant with our 2nd reversal baby. Anyway, there is a lot more information being gathered on the physiological impact of TL on many women.

That's a side note, but a possible explanation if you are not pregnant. I hope you find your answers soon, and that it is the answer you'd welcome the most.

Blessings to you!

I have a large number of friends with tubal-syndrome... its horrible... one bleeds for a month, spends 3 months without, then bleeds for a month.

One thing, you probably already know, if you DO end up pregnant you need to get in to get checked ASAP because post-tubal pregnancies have a high risk of ectopic pregnancies.

Thanks for acknowledging what your friends are going through MaerynPearl. I truly appreciate that. The fight that many women have endured to get practitioners, spouses, friends, insurance companies, etc, to BELIEVE them, understand them, get any treatment, etc., is horrible. I went from being a completely regular 28 day cycle, 5 day normal bleeder, to fainting while singing on stage at church during CD1 from bleeding so badly. I am healthy, and they could find no other explanation for the "new heavy bleeding". My frequent migraines were hard to live with. Finally my OB wrote the insurance company, and my DO and I appealed the decision to not cover a reversal, as well. Though it wasn't found in my favor, the victory came in that the ins. co acknowledged I was suffering FROM the TL!

Sorry to hijack the thread this way, OP, but I always look for an opportunity to speak the truth about TL's. They aren't the "quick and easy" fix for millions of women-for many, they are the beginning of torture. I encourage any woman I encounter who is considering TL to read up on PTLS...

My neighbor got pregnant with twins a year after her tubal. One survived. He is 3 now...actually we just celebrated his bday.

No, but my mom did.
That was almost 27 years ago, though, I assume things are a little more precise these days.
That said, I don't think waiting a few days to test will hurt anything, but if you're really afraid, you may want to head to the doc. You shouldn't have to wait until the day of your hypothetical missed period to test, though. Try in a few days with a good (NON blue dye) test, and then hopefully you can relax. Best wishes to you.

My aunt get pregnant after having her tubes tied. I'm not sure when she had the opperation done, but the post-tubal baby was born in the early 1980s. It can definitely happen.

Not sure if this should be posted here or in another section...considering this is a pregnancy forum. It might be better off in a forum to talk about medical issues? Seeing that a lot of women experience 'Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome' and get very similar symptoms after their tubal (?)

Anyhow, on to my "concern"..I had my tubal ligation done in 03 after my 4th child/section, and NOW I am 3 weeks late. I haven't tested yet because I have had late periods in the past, but none in the past year, and not as late as THIS. So I've been just sitting on it..per say. I'm getting all the classic signs of pregnancy. Tender boobs, mild sickness, mood swings, a very annoying sharp sense of smell, tired all the time, and eating like a pig!
I really think it's just a late period due to other unknown circumstances, but I know it's not totally impossible.

Anyone here know of anyone who has actually gotten pregnant while having their tubes tied? I will test soon, most likely when I build up the pee..or tomorrow with FMU.

My brother was born in '94 after my mother got her tubes tied. The doctors were nearly sure he was a tubal baby and told her to have a D&C. My dad refused and told them they had their dates off. They later apologized when they found the little bean right where he was supposed to be and told my dad he should go to medical school.
