do you still play?

apart from the usual sports or card games or video/computer games?

what does your play look like.

what is 'play' for an adult?

do you play alone or in a group?

I don't really understand why sports, card games and computer games are left out.

I love board games, do those count? And pen-and-paper games like Hangman and tic-tac-toe, I like those-- do they count? What about for a computer version?

I hoop.

I like to ride my flying turtle. I do let the kids ride it too though.

I also got a purple streak in my hair (big faux pas in my family).

I drag my children hiking and such.

With my kids, I'll play tag and hide and go seek and hopscotch and catch. And hungry hungry hippos today (DS1 just got for his b-day). Without them, it's usually video games or reading or walking if I've got free time to do something. Board or card games with other adults. Maybe a tickle fight with DH now and then.

Oh DH and I dress up in medieval clothes and go to events, he swordfights in armor. Doesn't feel like play for me just different work to make it happen though.

I still quite like playing with a doll house. Our garden centre used to have this awesome toy store with a lot of playmobile out for you to play with in the shop... I spent two hours playing with it once whilst DS was happy playing with the train set they had out! lol I am not into trains but the playmobile farm and stables and pirate ship were pretty fun! hehe His play seems limited to anything with wheels lol

I love board games. Dh rarely plays with me, but we do have a few friends we get together with sometimes and play.

Dh plays video games.

My play nowadays has to do with thrifting, mostly.

For pure fun I play computer games - I know that doesn't "count" for this thread, but that's the most "fun" I have. Oh, and I read junk books, sometimes children's fiction. And I'll design houses for fun (like come up with blueprints) and go outside when I can. I also meditate which is kind of like glorified pretending. And I write fiction, which for me is again, like playing.

Come to think of it, those are the things I played with as a kid too. I was kind of a nerd and didn't have anyone to play "games" with. I'd draw and stuff. And do crafts, although now instead of like fashion designer crafts I like to actually sew things. Or instead of coloring books I will color mandalas and such to relax. The only thing I don't really do much anymore is play Barbies and Legos - although once my kids grow out of Duplos I'm sure I will join them more.

We also make music sometimes with our box full of music instruments, and I'll happily play along with them, even if it's just making a little melody on the alligator xylophone.

Sure. Obviously now that DD's around we play with her. But even before she came along, DH & I played board games and word games, in addition to computer games. We drew and painted. We raced each other. We pretended to be people or creatures we weren't (and no, not in the bedroom ). We made inanimate objects talk. We built things. We went "hunting" animals (which we photographed, rather than killed, when we found them). We planned grand schemes. We had silly cooking competitions (asparagus ice cream, anyone?). We were constantly playing, when we weren't working. And we still are, though DH has little time for it these days.

I've always loved board games/card games, and when i was pregnant with Rylie, my partner and I went through a phase of playing this Playstation racing game every night. Normally, I'm not big on video games.

I like some outdoor games . . . tennis and badminton . . . and I have my hobbies that are "play" to me -- knitting and reading.

Oh, and I love doing jigsaw puzzles but haven't done a big one in awhile. I used to do them with my mom, but her cats are PITAs when it comes to leaving a puzzle set up.

DH and I LOVE amusement parks. Roller Coasters are like a hobby to us.

I read and we play video games together.

I color a lot when I can find the time. It's soothing and relaxing for me.

Sometimes I'll sew a pillow or two. I can't sew anything else but I love making pillows.

DH and I will play Scrabble or Boggle. We like word games.

We also get together with friends and hike, explore and play board games. We really enjoy that.

I channel most of what I put into creative play as a child into writing.

I love building the toy train tracks. My daughter actually gets annoyed waiting for me to finish construction before she gets to play.

I also am very fortunate to have a very creative design job. Last month I brought my daughter's poster paints into work and did a mock up on 30 taped together sheets on the wall. I put together a kit full of markers, highlighters, tape, scissors, etc and then get 8-10 people together to sketch mockups of new software. It's a lot of fun.

Also I like pencil puzzles. (Games magazine) It's like I never grew up.

I spin wool into yarn. It technically could be called "work" but seriously if I really just wanted yarn I could go out and buy it for about what the wool costs. It would definitely be cheaper to just buy already made hats and mittens and such. So I think it counts as play,

I buy lottery tickets so I can pretend we're millionaires and think up all the ways we would use the money.

DS and I are putting a puzzle together together.

I enjoy doing fun stuff with my kids. I love Disney Land and Sea World and the zoo. I have fun there with kids.

I enjoy going to the park for playgroups... my "playing" is more along the lines of chatting with the other mommy's than running around though.

I love board games! The girls in my playgroup have actually been doing a mom's night in once a month (though we also do our much needed mom's night out as well!) and play board games. The kidlets stay home with the dads or sitters and the mommy's play board games. This month I think we've decided to turn the board games into drinking games. So that should be some fun playing...

Other than that my hobbies wouldn't really be classified as playing in the way that little kids do...

Playing is part of my job...occupational therapy.
I also love the outdoors and refer to "nature time" where we go to the park, out hiking ect...I love exploring new places, or digging in the sand.
I don't really enjoy games (computer, board games) My kids don't get why I don't want to play their video games! I'd rather be on MDC.

So, does hanging out on MDC count as play? Some threads are more playful than others of course.

I swim in the ocean and hike. My kids and I play laser tag every so often. DH and I sing karaoke sometimes. Amusement parks, board games, card games, video games....they're all on my list. Oh, and great sex.
