S/O - do YOU still play? - Page 2

I play make-believe, in my head, quite a lot of the time...and even without doing such, isn't "daydreaming" really make believe as well? Can anyone say they don't daydream? I do both, and I do things like build little fairy houses, even if the kids aren't with me lol I still color, I have coloring books "for grownups" but they are still coloring books I'll play on the swings or slides if there aren't many people around.

I'm prone to playing with dds' toys that are laying around. I love dollhouses still, and building type toys. I still have my Smurfs from childhood around the house, I gave them to dds but I like setting them up too. I went on a quest to replace my Herself the Elf recently(my parents threw out or gave away all my toys, excepting those Smurfs, when I was 14 and I loved that elf)

Dh will still play too and sometimes we play together. Besides all that we all love board games and puzzles too, we like to walk in the woods, we like to design treehouses/dreamhouse/castles in the sky( we like to pretend we're architects )

I love pretend play. I day dream a lot. I pretend play with my kids all the time.

I also really like messy play and building things - sandcastles, snowmen, sheet forts, tunnels, train tracks, block towers. I play with my kids trains and blocks after they go to bed sometimes. When I was little, my dad and I did model trains together. He just got them out again recently so that DS could play with them too.

I also write and draw and play music. Those are all play to me.

And I love jumping on the bed.

I definitely still play! I really don't see that changing as I get older. One of my favorite things to do is drag my friends to the playgrounds so I can play on the swings. hahaha

this is all so interesting.

i was more curious about what you call play.

why do we play?

for relaxation. for fun. for destressing?

i love goofing off. i love pantomime. so anywhere i can make faces, be theatrical i do. just for fun.

for myself i dont know if i would call my passion for reading, writing or journaling as play because its more to relax me. i enjoy it of course but it doesnt really 'feel' like play.

i love board games too.

computer games for me are not play. that's where i spend a lot of my free time but its not 'fun'. or exciting. i can get into it, but i would call it a 'time pass' instead of play. i dont really enjoy them. however as pp said i enjoy coming here to talk to you. to share. to be inspired. to look at another way of thinking.

so see i am not sure what my definition of play is!!!!

i still love outdoor games. i still love walking on railtracks. sack races, spoon and egg race. 3 legged race. dancing.

and i mean play without our children. meaning as 'you'. for instance i dont enjoy playing with my dd. she has plenty of people and kids to play with so i dont feel like i am depriving her. but omg dont ask me to join in any pretend play. i will be the willing diner or patient or ..... but only coz my kid is an onlie.

but i am more curious of what you as a person, not mom enjoy doing.

to me another play is research. i love researching and writing papers. i do it on my own. on my favourite topics.

would play for us mean the same thing as a child. trying to find our creativity?

i am terribly uncoordinated so even though i would love to play outside sports, i am terrible at it.

i think my biggest play is 'shocking people'. acting crazy. and watching people trying to figure out if i am really crazy or am i putting on a show. of course i do it only when i am with my dd as i do it for her amusement.

anyways i see a friend going deeper and deeper into funk. they do their typical 7 to 4 job and then dont know what to do. and out of boredom either play on teh computer or watch tv. or read. its one thing to read for the pleasure of reading and quite another just to pass the time. and then they go even deeper.

perhaps for me play is inspiration. inspiration is like breathing for me. i cannot survive without it.

not sure if i know exactly what i am talking about. but as you guys post your replies it gives me more to think about.

oh and i wanted to add - even if this is not really about our play as a mom, i think it is synonymous with parenting. you have to play to be a good parent.

All depends on the definition of play. I sew for both fun and profit. I go to reenactments (viking, renfaires, Civil War, etc.) I participate in Easter egg hunts, word games, puzzles. I read--trashy novels to serious biographies.

I don't do any imaginative play, but there are LOTS Of things that I do just for fun - for no other reason - so I guess that's play. Stuff like colouring-in, baking, knitting, painting, organising, building, gardening, reading, creating, playing music, playing board games, doing paper & pencil puzzles.
