Questions for early talkers

So, if you have a kid who started using full sentences at like 18 months, did you think to ask them/could you ask them:

Why is it necessary to have a piece of cheese for each hand when less than 1/2 of a piece will get eaten? (And don't try to break a single piece in half, that is WRONG!! and will Break a Baby's Heart!!!)

Why twiddling? The other breast is visible, why is there panic that there will be no more milk, E.V.E.R, if a little hand isn't trying to unscrew that nipple?

I ask similar questions even though I know I won't get an answer. Just asking makes me feel better.

My big one is always, "Why so many messes?" But it is always taken as rhetorical by my kids, even thought they're older.

Um, I did have one of those full-sentence talkers by 18 mos. Unfortunately early talking does not = early rationality. It just makes you think they're rational, so you try to explain / argue / reason with them and they just keep talking about dump trucks.

I had/have one of those, and I do ask him stuff.

"Why did you do that?"

"BECAUSE I WAAAANT TO!"

"Why do you want the (knife/chainsaw/rattlesnake)?"

"BECAUSE I WAAAAANT IT!"

Illuminating.

I can so relate to this! My little twiddler was using complete sentences by that age, too. She would probably have either given a long drawn out answer or just stared blankly, depending on her mood.

Locally, someone with a 4 year old extended nurser did ask. : "Because I'm nursing!"

My daughter's answer to everything was "because I love to".

"why are you putting the toothbrush in your brother's diaper?"
"because I love to"

"why are you peeing on the dog?"
"because I love to"

Bear likes to say "because it is" or "because I did". Bean usually said "because I can". In short, they do those things because they are babies, and that is what babies do.
