What town are you in? I lived in Watertown until April. Then my husband deployed and currently I'm with family in So Cal. I'll be in Fort Drum come winter again depending on when my husband returns. Most likely March, but they said there's a chance he'll return early so maybe sooner.

How old are your kids? 1 year!

How did you find MDC? I don't remember. I wanted an AP community and I know I lurked for a bit.

Are you interested in meeting other MDC moms? Yes!! I was so lonely out there and didn't know anyone. On top of that we only had 1 car so I was home bound during the week. We're getting a second one when he returns.

What's your favorite holistic place in your area? The Mustard Seed. They had lots of good Gluten Free foods!

What's your favorite holistic place in your area? (restaurant, other business, etc). My acupuncturist Happy Uterus, Life Source Acupuncture; CNY Yoga; I love the food coop, I live around the corner from it. Strong Hearts \ makes the best cupcakes...

I am mostly posting to mention that Syracuse was voted 5th small city in the US as most vegan-friendly. Did anyone else see that? In the article they mention three restaurants Strong Hearts, Alto Cinco (for the vegan bean wrap - its yummy!) and Sparky Town. I have never heard of Sparky Town. There is (or was) another vegan cafe on Burnett street. I didnt really like their cookies...to hard ... but the ambiance of the place was nice.

There are plans for the Syracuse Food Coop to triple in size and relocate to East Genessee / Fellows. Although I am happy to see it expand, its a huge drag that it is moving...I live around the corner and love having such easy access to a great store.

That's right, that is the name. A few years ago I had an office in a warehouse on Erie & same side street...I was delighted when I discovered the Sugar Pearl...a quick walk for coffee.

So, in short, yes I have been there, I would get coffee there, and sometimes, take out lunch.

I believe I saw a for sale sign on the building; not sure if it is still in business.

What town are you in? : Mexico...its on the shore of Lake Ontario about a half hour north of Syracuse. I'm excited to see there are several of you from here, too!

How did you find MDC? Several years ago when doing a google search for info on cloth diapering for my youngest DD

My daughter is 5.

I can't remember how I found MDC exactly but it was before I had my daughter. Someone recommended it but not sure who!

It would be great to meet other MDC moms who maybe have a child that is my daughter's age! It's hard to find like-minded Moms because if you mention that you had a natural birth and don't vaccinate sometimes things can get icky...

There is a local health food store that we practically live at called Green Grocer.

Women's Wellness Place down near Crouse. I really like them alot...they are far less pushy about things than other OB/midwife practices I've seen in the past, and everyone in the office is just awesome.

You're only about 20 minutes from me...if you ever want to get together sometime, I'm more than game. DP and I are both former military, too, so know exactly what that kind of life is like...feel free to PM me and I'll send you my email.

They were one i was looking at. Everyone seems so far I am not used to that at all.
I will pm you my email. I know no one in the area it seems. We homeschool so I always have a van fun when we go anywhere.

This is where I go as well. I go there for my regular obg care and was there for both my pregnancies and births. Very happy w/ them.

Yeah, we are kind of rural. LOL I grew up here so I'm used to having to travel for stuff like this, but I can see how someone new to the area could be overwhelmed by how far away things are. You either have to drive to Syracuse or Watertown (you're a little closer to there, TBH), but for maternity care/delivery, Crouse is the best place to go if you don't want or can't have a homebirth. I went to Community General with my last birth and was not at all impressed. If you do decide on WWP, see if you can get in to see Mary Lou, the midwife that works with the practice...she is wonderful!

I am still working on a homebirth, but trying to find out if wwp is in my insurance, I know Crouse is. DH said there is no way any of the family is ever going to the one in Watertown after an incident today with one of his co-workers.

Preg ladies- The births that I've attended at Crouse have really been as good as hospital births get. Yes, it's not home, but if you're going to pick a hospital in this area, Crouse is a good one. What stood out to me is how respectful they were of my clients' choices and how they didn't push interventions on them that they didn't want.

Ooh... I should post on here, in case someone runs across it...

Looks like there will be no homebirth midwives available in Ithaca for two or three months next summer. One of them is on sabatical, one seems to be retiring and the third will be on vacation for a couple months. Sooooo that would be a lot of homebirths in upstate new york, since the ithaca midwives serve much of the southern tier and fingerlakes region...

What's your favorite holistic place in your area? (restaurant, other business, etc). Natural foodie section at Wegmans which i think Newark has the smallest of (i dont drive, so getting anyplace else doesn't happen right now )
