Weight of the man and TTC..?

So I just read this and it's pretty alarming -
http://www.storknet.com/cubbies/infe...s-obesemen.htm

I knew the sperm count could be lower but not the quality/increased risk of miscarriage..! This is scary.. my husband has always been overweight. He is currently eating very healthy and is taking a fitness bootcamp in the mornings that has helped alot with loosing fat & building muscle but he still has a long way to go .. he is 5'9 and 315 pounds.. generally he is healthy .. normal blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.

Is this a huge concern that is going to make it very difficult or is it just a little roadblock..? Plus I do not have regular periods - maybe 7 or 8 a year..

No one can tell you for sure. We cant see his little spermies to tell you whether or not its affecting his.

I know what you mean, my MIL brought this up to us as well. My dh is about 5'10 and prob about 225. He has a belly, and thats why MIL brought it up to us after she saw Dr Oz talking about it.

Im not sure what to think, Ive known plenty of big guys who have had babies. I think smoking has more to do with it than weight. But thats just my opinion.

You can get his doctor to recommend a sperm analysis at his next check up, we are going that route since we have been trying for a little over a year. That should clear up any questions you might have about that.

Also, we are taking fertiliaid, kinda pricey, but lots of great reviews.

Good luck!!

I just heard of that yesterday..! Also Fertility Blend..
I bought some Maca last week after reading it was a "fertility superfood" do you think it's safe for both of us to start using it..? I haven't really heard anything negative about it..

We used maca, both of us, for awhile. It helped with libido ( wink wink) but it kinda gave me a belly ache at first.
It is also in fertiliaid ( I always think I spell that wrong. lol) so dh is still getting it but I have since stopped taking it. One other thing about fertiliaid, it makes dh a little sick to his stomach if he takes it on an empty stomach, your results may vary though!

Maca might help any hormonal situations either of you might have, so I would definitely try it. Just take it with a snack. :-) It's a whole food so its not like you have to worry about taking too much or anything. ( But start slow and work your way up)

Is it easy to get a sperm analysis..? Like are there special places for that kind of thing..? Or is it something they have to recommend for you to get..? His current doctor kinda sucks (we have an HMO) so he would have to change doctors and then get a referral.. it would be super fascinating just to see what his count/quality would be..

You know, for us it was easy to get a sperm analysis approved. My dh goes to the free clinic for his check ups, b/c he doesnt have insurance...and he just asked the doc about it at his last appointment and he gave him a lab sheet to go get it done at the lab, whenever he chooses to go.

I would think in any big city you could arrange to get one fairly cheaply and easily. It didnt seem like a very big deal to dh's doctor. Do you have a nurses line at the hmo? Maybe you could call and inquire. It might just be a slip he needs to pick up.

Also, you can look around the web for those home SA kits. Not as accurate, I'm sure but might give you an idea of what you are looking at..
