Doctor said "Cool"

Took DS for a checkup with our FP, mainly to get a referral for something else. DS has only seen her once before, a couple of years ago. When she was looking over his file she said "so, he's never had any immunizations?" and my husband and I both said "no". She replied "cool". That was the end of it.I had to ask my dh later if i'd heard correctly, I was so stunned. Just had to share a positive Doc story!

JEALOUS! But awesome!!!

I think I would have had to say, "Excuse me? Did you just say 'cool'?" hoping she would explain.

She must have done research outside of the med school party line.

It seems to be a little more common in Canada. Our GP doesn't even give vaccines! She says if people want them so badly they can take their kids to the public health unit. I love that it is not even an issue when we visit!

Not to get too off topic, but I find that interesting. Here in the States, one concern we have with government involvement in healthcare is what will happen to our choices about vaccines, etc. I guess it could go either way. What makes Canadian doctors more vax friendly? I just don't trust the same could happen in the US. Our government is too tied to the vaccine companies.

IME with friends and such they still tend to have a pet vaccine. "Its ok but you should do at least this one" They usually tend to let it go after that. I stopped taking my lo to WBV because he would ask if I vaccinated her every single time. Each time I would say no he would say well I did it to my kids and they are ok. I DONT CARE!!! BAH!!!!

i think that in part it is because doctors, at least in alberta, do not give vaccines. that's the role of the health nurse, and believe me, most health nurses push the vaccines quite heavily. on the other hand, i don't think that a doctor has ever asked me if i or the kids are vaccinated.
to the OP: yaa! that's great!

I should have mentioned that I am in the U.S. I'm Canadian but happen to live south of the border. We used to see a pediatrician who was tolerant but always pushed at every appointment. We changed, had one checkup a couple years ago where I think she mentioned tetanus. This time, she didn't even bother, just said "cool". I am really tempted to call her and ask why she said that. I'd like to believe she is enlightened. When my husband had C. difficile a few years ago, she was totally on board with him not taking abx and continuing with probiotics. I feel like we are very lucky to have found her. We weren't even looking.

I'm concerned about that too. It's very scary how these small freedoms are being slowly taken away. I wonder when Americans will realize and stand up and fight for them? I'm okay with the fact that the majority of the population thinks vaccines are fantastic; what scares me is that the majority also believes that we shouldn't have a choice. I don't believe they realize what exactly they are supporting when they are supporting mandating vaccines. That is not freedom.

Canada has socialized medicine, yet Canada's constitution (like America's) gives people the power of choice. Vaccines can not be forced upon Canadians the way Americans are letting it be forced on them. Socialized medicine is not the problem.

Very scary times.
