Weight limit for front carry in a MT?

I LOVE our MT (Catbird Baby)--it has been incredibly comfortable, and I especially appreciate it for nursing DS down for sleep, but recently he has begun to feel so heavy! I realized that I stopped wearing DD in front (Ergo) when she was about 21 pounds...DS is 20.

DS is the same weight at 7 months that DD was at a year, so I had more time with DD in a front carry.

Not sure how I'll survive being on the go with both kids if I don't have the nurse-down option.

Any suggestions?

personally, when my kiddos reached 20/25lbs i switched to back carries as my go to position. but i still put them on the front to nurse as needed. and if they fell asleep nursing on the front i would leave them there. it usually wasn't worth moving them, but none of my kiddos were big nappers. but really, back napping replaced front nursing/napping fairly easily for us. especially as my kiddos got older and were really only napping 1x a day and eating more food (so nursing a little less).

I still wear my daughter (30 pounds) in the front... I guess I must be missing why you cant?

I still wear my 30lb 4yo in front carry, but not for extended periods and usually only if she's sick or sleeping. If she's alert and looking around, then I can't see around her head! LOL In the MT, I have usually done a rather high carry, with the straps tied right below my boobs. Lately, I've had to move the bottom straps to around my hips, otherwise I get back pain no matter the carry. Have you tried that?

I would say it depends on the MT. Try and get one where the straps come from up near the top, not below the top corners if that makes sense and make sure your LO is a close to your body as possible. And facing out (if you do this, though it doesn't sound like it) will be more painful too.

You might also want to play with MTs with different strap widths. perhaps there is a babywearing group near you where you can try different ones.

My DS is 13 months and I still mostly front carry in my mei tai. I like to be able to kiss his little head hehe
I will probably switch to back carry soon, but I still find it comfortable

My DS is nearing the weigh limit for my babyhawk, but I still sometimes wear him on front.

I still wear my 35+ pound three year old on the front regularly in both a MT and a wrap. My MT is a toddlerhawk though, so it has a taller back to make it more comfortable.

Carter was 30lbs at a year, I was carrying him on the front in the MT, and I'm tiny at 5'3" and 95lbs.
