I'm trying not to panic but my son's penis is swollen. The right side is almost bulbous. I just noticed it at bath time about 10 minutes ago. He has been crying off and on today when I carry him on my hip so he's in pain too and I didn't realize it was his penis. He won't let me or his dad touch it. Anyone know what it could be?

It's most likely either separation starting, or if you had a long drive for the holidays irritation from the seatbelt that goes up between his legs.
In either case it should subside in 24-48 hrs.
In the mean time just do things to help him be comfortable. Naked time and warm baths (no soap) should help. If he goes potty, then you can have him stick his penis into a cup of water when he needs to pee to take the sting out of it. You can put creams that are designed for the diaper area on it.
Do not put antibiotic ointment on it. It should only be used if there is a confirmed bacterial infection (it can cause a yeast infection) and then only certain brands should be used.
It may ooze smegma. This can be mistaken for pus, but it isn't the same thing even though they look identical. Smegma it harmless.
You only need to start worrying if the swelling becomes extreme. Swelling or redness move to the groin. If he is unable to pee (not to be confused with reluctant to pee, which is common.) If he has a fever.
