Simple question: Best height for a sewing table

Hi,
Trying to figure out whether to make do with a table I have but "feels" too high or buy a proper sewing table. Is there an optimum height for a sewing table or do most folks just use the kitchen table :-)

depends on whether you're a shorty like me or not!
the best thing i've found in my experience is to use whatever table you have but get an adjustable chair.. but then, if you have difficulty reaching the pedal that doesn't help much.

I have my sewing machine on a regular desk, and it's a fairly good height for me... it could stand to be a couple inches shorter, since I'm so short, but it's not horribly tall. I do have an adjustable office chair in there though, which I find to be far more important (swivel, on wheels, etc.).

I have my machines on a 6' long folding table from BJs. iIguess it's "standard" table height of about 30 inches or so? Pretty comfortable height for me, (I'm 5'5") though maybe an inch shorter wouldnt be bad. an adjustable chair would help in this case as a PP suggested!
