how does your child grow?

do they grow slowly right throughout the year, or in short bursts right throughout the year.

dd has a best friend whom she sees every week. earlier this week they went away for spring break. they come back and suddenly the difference in height between bf and dd is v. apparent. she had grown at least an inch a 1 1/2 inches taller. woah in less than a week?

now i am a 100% sure her friend did not shrink.

but i really cant believe it. even though i and bfs mom and dad saw it with our own eyes.

I have a slow and steady guy. He's always exactly 50% for height no matter when I measure him. But some of his friends seem to shoot up suddenly. We didn't see his one friend for a few months and now that friend is at least a few inches taller, never mind they were the same height all spring and summer and ds is 6 months older.

Both, really. Different parts of my kiddo grow in different ways. Lol.

His height seems to be a slow and steady thing...we chart on the armoir that was in his first nursery and it's seems pretty steady so far.
His feet def. grow in bursts...he'll wear one size forever and then suddenly his shoes are dramtically too small.
I can't seem to get a reading on his weight. Sometimes it's steady and sometimes it a burst. Either way he's been at the same weight for over 6 months no matter what he eats.

I do notice that the kids we see everyday acquire heigth in bursts though.

I have two that seem to be slow and stash and one that seems to go to bed and wake up taller than I am(he's 13, it actually happened!).

Mine do short bursts of growth. They actually get a bit "chubby" then shoot up and slim down at the same time.

DITTO here. mine does the spurt right before school starts. all summer she eats and eats and EATS. i notice last week she was the same way.

so this year either she is doing her growth spurt early or might do two.

i am sooo happy to hear this. my ex gave me such a hard time about dd getting fat. she gets round and chubby and then suddenly she is this tall reed. you can actually see the slimness AND the length of their body. her arms and legs look longer to me - rather than her whole height standing out to me.

DS grows in spurts.

He will suddenly start actually eating decent amounts of food for a couple of weeks. Then he starts rounding out a bit. Then he sleeps 3 to 4 extra hours per days for a couple of days.

BOOM! He's taller. He also goes back to his super skinny self.

He will keep the increased eating up for another couple of weeks. He also tends to go through a few days of having tons of pee accidents, it seems like he gets confused by his bladders new location.

He has a friend who we often go several weeks with out seeing, and one time we seem them she will be obviously taller than DS, then the next time DS will be obviously taller than her.

Definitely spurts. Dd grew about an inch last month. She grew 2 shoe sizes between August and September so her back to school shoes didn't fit.

I can tell when she's about to spurt up because she eats more than seems possible for a child her size for a few weeks, and then suddenly, nothing fits.

Ds spurts too, but his are harder to catch because he eats less overall.

I think K grows steadily. Of course this is just by judging clothing wise. He has never had something fit one day and then not at all a week later. Pants he started wearing at the end of last year and needed to be folded, no longer need to be. But then pants that never needed to be folded still fit .

My 7 year old is definitely slow and steady. He is small for his age (height and weight). I keep holding out for a growth spurt, but I can put clothes away for a year, pull them out and they still fit. His size 5 pants are finally getting to be a bit short, but they still fall off his waist if they're not slim and/or adjustable. My 4 year old grow a bit faster, but I still haven't noticed any obvious spurts.
