I was thrilled to read this today too. I just sat in a waiting room with two women who fed their girls formula when they were babies and both had been extremely colic-y. Both moms were basically traumatized by how their babies never stopped crying or were always so discontented- BUT they never put two and two together. That is, they didn't seem to understand that formula is NOT the best choice and that might have been why their babies were so uncomfortable/miserable. Neither appeared to have really tried to breastfeed- One mom worked and the other mom said, "i tried it for 2 days".

I just kept thinking if only they had understood the importance of breastfeeding, and how formula is NOT "just as good" they would've been (possibly) been spared a really tough first year with their babies. These were wonderful women, sincere and loving who just didn't realize. We need the medical community to come right out and say, "breast is best" and give all the REASONS why.

Thanks for posting!

I saw it on CNN's front page! (And of course linked it on my Facebook page!) Great article!

I just posted a link to this...I hadn't seen your post. Although I'm thrilled about the study being published, I am also annoyed at the way it is reported on, and the apparent climate of ignorance in society and especially in the hospitals. I know it exists, but it totally irks me.
