normal or worrisome?

maybe you can help me figure out what's going on. DS is 7 months old and just started crawling and is pulling up on stuff/trying to stand. I think he's working on some teeth, too. he's been sleeping like crap since he started working on crawling and he's wanting to drop to 2 naps from 3.

The last few days he's been crying a lot more than usual and seems to get tired more easily. Before now when he'd get tired he'd fuss a little but lately he has mad more urgency in his crying, if that makes sense. yesterday for hi last nap he was crying hysterically (in my arms) and fighting sleep. when he woke up from that nap he seemed happy.

He won't eat from the right boob unless he's very sleepy. He tries to push/crawl away or stand up. I've taken his temp multiple times and it is normal.

I don't know if he's crying more because he has found his voice or if he is unhappy/uncomfortable/something is wrong. I am always responsive to his cries, but lately if I don't get to him immediately he gets really upset, really fast.

I'm starting to worry that he may have an ear infection. Can you have an ear infection with no fever? I've looked him over and can't see anything wrong. he does have a little heat rash on his chest, but it's on the way out. I'll be calling the dr if he's still acting weird after his nap but just wanted to get some input from you guys.

Our 7.5 month DD has had two double ear infections.

The first was when she was about 4 months old, and yes, she had that double ear infection without a fever. When I picked her up from the babysitter, she was just really "blah" and had been like that all day. She had been really tired, I think a little fussy, and just generally not like herself (almost lethargic-like). She's normally a really happy smiley baby. She hadn't been pulling at her ears or refusing to nurse though. Since she was completely not her normal self, we took her to the urgent care and both her ears were bright red.

With the second double ear infection, she also had a sinus infection, that started with a cold, and she had a fever for that one for 3 days before we finally took her to the doctor. With this double ear infection, she did have a low grade fever that wouldn't go away, she was sleeping terribly (or should I say not sleeping), crying like she was in pain at night, but a little happier during the day, pulled at her right ear when nursing, and she started refusing to eat solids and barely nursed or drank much from a bottle for a couple of days.

I tend to take the approach that if she really isn't herself and I can't figure out what's wrong, I'll take her into the doctor. I've done this I think a few times, and 2 out of those 3 or 4 times I was really glad I did, because she did end up having ear infections.

Hope this helps and I hope your LO is feeling better soon!

thanks for your input - we're going to see the dr first thing in the am. I hope he hasn't been suffering for the last few days

Yeah, my first thought was ear infection.

It could also be teeth or some kind of pain in head or neck that might benefit from chiropractic or cranio-sacral therapy.

I hope everything turns out well, let us know how he's doing!

I hope if there is something going on you guys figure it out.

I know when DS was about 7-9m he was totally inconsolable. He was 100% Velcro whiny screaming pinching biting baby. Once he learned to crawl it was like we had a whole new kid. Babies are weird.

Thanks for the update, I hope he feels better soon! Tylenol or Motrin (if you're willing to give it to him) helped our LO a lot. And if he's on antiobiotics, he should start feeling better within 24-48 hours!
