Really? I guess that's why I'm getting no replies. I thought it was more popular...
It's by Elizabeth Crary.
I feel like it really addresses the underlying reasons why kids do things, why they act certain ways, and how the way we react affects it.
It has chapters on avoiding problems, decreasing bad behavior, increasing good behavior, and teaching new behaviors. It's very pro- positive reinforcement. It talks about how sometimes kids are just plain looking for attention so if you don't give them the positive attention they'll settle for negative, and that increases the bad behavior.
It has exercises you can do to determine what your values are, and what character traits you'd like your kids to develope. And once you know that, you can decide whether short term gains (like doing something yourself to save time) would be worth the potential long term loss (child loses opportunity to gain independance.) etc.
It just has everything I think! I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. I'm not much of a reader but it's got me hooked. And I will definately be reading more parenting books to compare ideas.
