Would you buy an '06 Odyssey with 115k miles?

We would like to buy an Odyssey before the birth of our second child in June and have been having trouble finding one in good condition in our price range. We finally found one that looks great, is definitely within our price range, but has 115,000 miles on it. It was just turned in to the dealer by the original owner and always serviced at the dealership, so it has been maintained well. Would you buy a car like this? Is that just too many miles for a car I plan on keeping until it just won't run anymore? I'm a SAHM and I really don't put on a ton of miles on my car each year. Maybe 6k-8k/year. I'm not sure what to do. What do you think?

Well, some things that go wrong with a car are age related rather than miles driven... So I wouldn't rule it out. Doesn't a lot of stuff need doing at 100K? Maybe that's all done and you'll be spared some big maintenance?

Hondas can easily get over 200,000 miles so if you drive 6-8,000 miles per year, you could have the van for 10+ years. I think I would look into it further. It is in your price range and is a newer Honda. I think if it is a good price, I would do it.

I agree with the poster that said most problems with cars are age related vs. mileage related. High mileage is one thing that doesn't scare my husband. His old Ford pickup had over 200K. If it's a good price, it would be worth it! I know I couldn't afford to get into an Odyssey when I wanted one!

We bought our 06 G6 at 119,000. It was very cheap price so we knew if anything did happen to go wrong we could use the money we saved by buying it to fix it. So far nothing has went wrong. We have bought new brakes and new tires and that is all. The guy we bought it off of used it to drive to work on the interstate every day. So all highway miles. Hopefully It goes for a while. Id say it would be a good deal. Especially if it has been well maintained that means the most!

ETA : we have had it nearly 2 years now.

It would depend on the price for me... I definitely think it has many years of life left, considering I have a Subaru with 221,000 miles that runs just fine. Hondas seem to last forever, too, so I would be looking at the price divided by how many more years I thought I'd drive it (whether it got resold later on, or kept until it drove into the ground). Ifit's a good price, I'd have a mechanic look at it and if all is good, buy it.

Thanks for the advice! The dealership wanted over $18,000 for it, and they wouldn't budge. We thought it was too much, so we decided to keep looking. The hard part is that I don't have a car now because we sold my old one, so I'm getting a bit desperate since we live in a fairly rural area down in the bottom of a canyon. If my DD and I want to go anywhere other than the river I have to drive because I'm 8 mos pregnant and the climb up to the main road is really steep. So, we're going to go look at another Odyssey this weekend. Hopefully it will work. This one only has 70k miles and the list price is $24k. We're going to need them to come down a bit on the price, so hopefully my master sales-guy husband can work his magic.

Thanks again for the input. I'll keep you posted.

yikes! I know Odysseys are expensive, but I would personally buy a newer, lower mileage vehicle over that. Glad you passed. You can get a brand new Mazda 5 for about that amount - 2010, zero miles. Hope the other one works out for you (though, I still think that's a lot for 70k miles - but I know it's a Honda, so likely worth it).
