what did you name your baby boy? - Page 2

Graham Alexander

I think you need a name like Theodore that has a ton of nickname options so you have plenty of time to settle on a nickname but satisfy family pressure to give him a name!

DDC crashing from May. I'm due in 5 weeks and we plan to name our baby boy Jack Gabriel.

Musashi Charles

a few reasons
like my husband he has one Western name and one Japanese name. Musashi is for Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai who wrote the book of Five Rings, a book of ethics for samurai and it is now used in business schools. Charles is for my father, a lawyer and jack of all trades who passed about 5 years ago. The idea of one Japanese and one Western name is he can pick what he wants to go by; if we move to Japan later and he wants to go by Musashi to 'fit in' he can, if at some point we go back to the mainland or whatever and he wants to fit in here more he can go by Charles. Giving him an opportunity to be the person he wants to be whatever name he identifies with more.

Katie - I hope this isn't annoying to you (I could see it being annoying or weird), but I just looked at your photo of your little guy and my thought was "what's his name, again? Max?" I guess he looks like a Max to me...

Well, I have four girls... so I've never gotten to use a boy name, but have always thought of one 'just in case' (though by this point, it's more of a joke to even THINK about boy names.. lol)...

Hazel wasn't named immediately... it took a bit after she was born to actually settle on Hazel... but of course I had a short list of boy names that I LOVED! Really, really loved them all! They were: Leo, August or Elias. Even now I'm bummed I didn't get to use them (um... but not bummed we have Hazel, if that makes any sense.. )!

For the older three... I think William (we'd call him Will) or Joseph would have been there. ... Michael would have been the middle name (after dh). I always have loved Tobias (Toby) too.

I do love Theodore and Teo as a nickname

My boys are Simon Matthew and Christopher James (Simon is 3 and Christopher is my newbie.)

Other names we considered:
Timothy
Michael
Alexander
Thomas
Vincent
Robert
Andrew
Charles
Nicholas

Names I loved by dh hated:
Ronan
Kieran
Sage
Isaac
Jordan
Patrick
Ezra
Gideon
Levi

ETA: Saw your update. I love Theodore but can't use it because we have Simon (way to Alvin and the Chipmunks!) I think you can write Theo like that and pronounce it Teo, but no one else would, so I'd just stick with Teo.

I know a 3 year old nicknamed Teo pronounced like you said, so that could definitely work. It's short for a Turkish name, I think spelled Teoman. Teo does sound ethnic to me though.

LOL. My husband suggested Richard (Ricky) as a name for my youngest. We liked it until we thought about the fact that my youngest girl is Lucy. As much as I might like Lucy and Ricky as names, there's the whole I Love Lucy thing that ruins having one of each.

I love the name, Katie. Theodore was one of my favorite boy names.

My son's name is Taichi but we call him "Tai" just like DH, FIL, etc.

Theodore was on our short list for both kids had either of them been boys. I love it! Yay for deciding on something!
